Simple, local, fresh. Nothing fussy, and the food is amazing. I had the home made noodles with fresh grated truffle.(It’s a seasonal dish & a steal for € 22.) To. Die. For. So simple, so easy to screw up… but perfect. I wish I was in town longer so I could eat here again. I do want to clarify that though many of their dishes are vegetarian and/or gluten free, there is meat and fish on the menu. Perfect for a mixed group — something for everyone! The home made tiramisu was amazing; my boyfriend had a SECOND helping. Complimentary limoncello, amaretto, or grappa after the meal. Really feels like an Italian grandma invited you in for dinner.

This is a fun restaurant that has the old school Italian feel. It has fresh pasta and quality sauces. We ordered a bruschetta appetizer that was grilled bread that you could tell had fresh garlic rubbed on before placing the olive oil and tomatoes on top. The tagliatelle was good with the meat sauce and they let me add porcini mushrooms to the sauce, which made it rustic and delicious. The pasta with shrimp and a lemon and herb sauce was the best. It had nice seasoning and the fresh herbs gave it a depth of flavor that was lacking a little bit with the tagliatelle ragu. The prices were very good for the quality of food and considering it is right by Barberini Square and a bunch of hotels.

This place was… weird. I found Taverna Barberini both on Unilocal and on my Find Me Gluten Free app, and after reading the raving reviews on both I just had to stop by during my four-day trip. I don’t know if I visited on an off day, an off hour, or what but this place was far from the marvelous gluten free restaurant I imagined. Yes, they did tell me I could have anything on the menu made gluten free, and boy did that prospect excite me! But the ravioli was crunchy and small. The sauce it came with was flavorless. Worst of all, it was cold and my uncle and I were the only two in the entire restaurant. Also, the ambiance and décor leaves much to be desired. The restaurant is below ground, so there’s not a lot of light. Our table was dirty, the waiters were neither attentive or friendly, and overall the restaurant just seemed like a sad, dingy afterthought. On my way here, I passed by at least four random little restaurants boasting gluten free offerings, and I wish I had stopped at one of them instead. Don’t make my mistake. Go elsewhere. Rome is a mecca for gluten free Italian, so don’t waste your time seeking this place out.

This was my favorite meal while in Rome. The staff is very knowledgeable of the needs of someone who is gluten free. They have GF bread that is an extra charge, but they didn’t mention that at first, but it is really good with the balsamic and olive oil for dipping. The pasta with bacon sauce was amazing and a specialty of theirs. The only thing that was just okay was the GF tiramisu, but they have other options for dessert. I wish we went back for a second night.

Our driver from the airport recommended Taverna Barberini to us and it did not disappoint. My wife was very excited when they said they had artichokes in since the two previous nights the restaurants said they were out. We started off with antipasta which turned into a feast unto itself. I ordered the cheese antipasta, but the waiter must have thought I ordered the antipasta sampler which was a bit of everything. When they brought it I explained the mistake and they were going to take it back away, but everything looked so amazing that we decided to keep it. Tip: they bring out a lot if you order it and it can easily be a meal for three. We picked at some of this and that and found everything was amazing. We should have stopped there and skipped the pasta we’d ordered, but we didn’t and later regretted it. The pasta was amazing. My wife had ravioli and I had carbonara for the first time ever. The artichokes were fried and came out delicate and delicious. By that time we were stuffed to the gills and just finished our bottle of wine when our waiter brought out complimentary shots of digestive and biscotti. I don’t think I’ve been that full in my life. Definitely rookie mistakes but everything was perfect and the wait staff friendly and personable.

Ah, Roma! I’m seriously missing you right now. Taverna Barberini is one of the places my mind keeps reimagining as I think back on my trip. It’s the kind of restaurant that truly encapsulates the allurement of Rome, at least for me. The carefree hustle of the city around you, the warm invitation to come downstairs and immerse yourself in an intimate setting, classic Roman dishes made bright with simple ingredients and herbs. All lovely. Although we were tempted to wander downstairs into the warm light as if visiting an old friend, we opted to sit outside to enjoy the crisp autumn weather and the busy street-side sights. There are only a few tables outside and quarters are super close on the sidewalk, but that’s part of the experience. I’m comfortable in a tight spot if the environment around me is dynamic — including exceptional cuisine, wine, and beloved company! My friend and I found Taverna Barberini on Unilocal by searching«gluten free» and«vegetarian.» You’d think we’d have trouble finding legit food in Italy with our dietary needs/choices, but we had no bumps at all. So much great food and people who took our eating issues seriously. Taverna Barberini had an incredible array of choices! Almost everything could be made«senza glutina,» hallelujah. I wish I could remember the exact name of my dish, I apologize, but I’ve included pictures of my plate! It was some kind of Roman pasta dish made with an incredible tomato sauce(I think with pieces of pork/lardons), super thick gluten free spaghetti noodles, and red pepper, all sprinkled with grated parmesan. It was outstanding. The flavor of the sauce was so rich, like it’d been simmering for days. The spice was perfection and the noodles cooked a splendid al dente. Really an amazing dish. As in most of the places I ate in Rome and Florence, the service wasn’t quite as «attentive» as I’m used to, and I loooove it. No one is rushing you in and then out of their restaurant. It’s a much more relaxed vibe, you know? Eat and enjoy. Take the time to soak in your environment, your company, your food and drink. I really don’t understand people who rush through meals, but for me, eating is always the main event!

After being firmly turned away at the highly anticipated restaurant Osteria Baberini because I didn’t make a reservation(duh), I was too tired and too cold to walk any further to the other restaurants I had bookmarked. I looked up something in the area and decided to check out this place after seeing decent reviews on Unilocal and TripAdvisor. I was frankly disappointed. Both food and service were severely lacking. I had a porcini pasta dish and it was bland and flavorless. Not only it took them forever to bring out the dish, nobody bothered to check up on me the entire time. I ended up having to walk over to the kitchen/counter area to look for my waiter to get my check. Last dinner in Italy — and what a disappointment. Fortunately I had so many amazing meals throughout the trip I quickly got over this unmemorable one.

This place is magic! The staff are great, you can get pretty much the entire menu gluten free. Try the spinach and cheese homemade fresh ravioli, its divine. Gluten free bread is great. Atmosphere is great. I cant wait to come back amazing glutenfree goodness in rome. First off they will serve you with homemade gluten free bread, it is delicious. Make sure you grab some olive oil, balsamic vinegar to dip the bread it. Its a great consistency like ciabatta but not as tough, its not like gluten free bread its light, fluffy and tasty. Next the prosciutto and melon is fresh and light, its also a really big serving so great to share between two or a group Of people as a starter. The pasta here is a must try. Its homemade and fresh. Gluten free! I have the ravioli but they have two pages of pasta to choose from. For dessert I had the tiramisu, it was amazing and just like traditional tiramisu. Its light and fluffy, perfect consistency. I finished with a espresso as is the way in italy. I was pretty surprised when the bill came to 35 euro. I’d had 3 courses, a large glass of wine, water and bread. The service was excellent and the food was amazing, one of the best meals i’ve had. I’m glad I searched this place out, its a gem, I highly recommend. They have really good prices and a large menu. Its about as Italian as can be.

Visited this hidden gem for lunch today. The only thing lacking from this place is outdoor seating. Then again, it’s hidden cellar locale adds to the quaint ambiance. Wait staff was very friendly, and prices were as reasonable as any food of this quality we’ve found in Rome. Between us, we tried the lasagna, ravioli, and Saltimbocca. All were exceptional.

If you are simply looking for gluten free, this might be your spot. The entire menu is pretty much available«senza glutina.» However, the menu itself was rather limited in my opinion and the food mediocre. Pricing seemed touristy/expensive relative to other places we’ve eaten. I’ve decided rather than seeking out GF menus, we are better off when I let the rest of my non-gluten free family pick the restaurant and I just stick with salad or meat and veggies.

They offer most of their menu with a gluten free option. I had the spaghetti carbonaro for lunch today. The good and service was great. Our waiter brought over complimentary home made digestives and cookies. They have a/c and it was a welcome relief on a hot day. Thanks for a wonderful meal and a good time. By the way our Italian waiter had lived in the US for more than ten years, so he was fluent in English. I also heard him speak Spanish as well.

We had a great experience at Taverna Barberini – both the food and service were fantastic, and they did an excellent job of accommodating some food allergies in our group. The menu is translated into many languages, but the restaurant doesn’t feel touristy and isn’t overrun with crowds swaddled in shopping bags. The food is really authentic, down to their impressive list of gluten-free(senza glutine) offerings. The tagliatelle ai funghi was the best gluten-free pasta I’ve ever had. My husband and our friends were equally impressed with their non-gluten-free dishes. However, none of us had much room left after ordering the epic sampler platter(first item on the menu in the appetizers section) and were surprised when they wheeled a small table over to us, piled high with mouth-watering(mostly veggie) dishes, a platter of bruschetta, fresh mozzarella and some cured meats. These veggies would win over even the most committed«anti-veg» diner. They even made a separate plate of gluten-free bruschetta for me so I wouldn’t feel left out while my dining companions were wolfing down the more traditional version. It was fantastic. All the while, we enjoyed listening to the non-stop keyboardist, who I don’t think stopped for a break(or even paused between songs) for the 2 hours we were there. Our friendly servers were also happy to pack up our leftovers«per portare via,» and we enjoyed round 2 as lunch the following day. :) HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch after descending from the Spanish Steps and before heading to the Capuchin Crypt. We were searching for someplace with gluten free options and this place did not disappoint. The service was fantastic and after finding out my wife eats gluten free the waiter returned with some gluten free bread without asking. We started with a caprese salad which was unbelievable. The mozzarella was so tasty and the herbs they flavored it with were perfect. I ordered the roasted pork and potatoes which melted in my mouth. Great flavor and cooked perfectly for me. My wife ordered the gluten free spinach and cheese ravioli and she was floored. It had been forever since she had ravioli and she said it was awesome. For dessert we had the tiramisu and it was delicious. We had the house wine which was definitely house wine but what do you expect at that price(good wine is for the evenings). The place was cute but we had to talk very quietly because there was no background noise from the street because it was below ground and no music in the place(we enjoy our privacy). They had a piano in the corner so i am sure they have music in the evenings. There was also no outdoor seating which we really enjoy. We loved this place and would definitely recommend it, especially for gluten free options.

Amazing restaurant with great friendly staff and perfect live pianist. At first my vegetarian husband was disappointed with the menu because there was so much meat on there; but after he overcame that he was easily able to get what he needed. The White House wine was delicious and great value. This is the first restaurant in Rome that was just perfect for both of our tastes. We will return again before we leave. Really nice ambiance and not squashed like many other restaurants and affordable.

The gluten free menu was great; the pasta tasted normal and was cooked very well. My girlfriend was able to try hollow spaghetti for the first time and loved it! The owner was fantastic and recommended a gluten free beer, which as a non-beer fan, she really enjoyed. The only word of caution I have is that the GF Tiramisu, made on the spot, was sadly pretty terrible. We felt bad about it as the owner was quite excited by it. Besides that, we highly recommend it!

Great little restaurant. Full Gluten Free menu, which in Rome is still not very common as far as I can see. Everything we had GF, and normal was delicious, and reasonably priced.
