This was my first(and only) pizza while visiting Italy! I doubted any other place would meet my expectations after the bar was set so high! The restaurant was filled locals, and we were welcomed warmly. My husband and I split a prosciutto and Marscapone pizza. It was the BEST pizza I had ever eaten.(Previous honor was held by Gino’s Chicago pizza!) The saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweet creaminess of the Marscapone blended perfectly with the light crust and flavorful tomato sauce and mozzarella. For dessert, we had tiramisu and chocolate crepes. Both were as delicious as we expected!

Delicious, authentic pizza! This is where the locals go! You’ll rarely see tourists in here, probably because they prefer the more ’boutique’ restaurants with outdoor seating, Chianti bottle candles, and a rustic décor. La Carbonaia is all business, and can be a little rowdy with local teenagers on Fridays and Saturdays, but the pizza is outstanding, and the service is significantly faster than most places in the San Casciano area(though admittedly that’s not saying much). Eat in or get take-out, but go to Carbonaia instead of letting yourself get sucked into tourist restaurants!
