My brother and I chose to stop in San Benedetto Po for lunch on our recent trip re-tracing our Grandfather’s WWII path. San Benedetto Po was chosen for being on their historic route nearly 70 yrs ago, and obviously close to the Po River. So… we figured we would just«wing it» and find lunch when we got to town; since there was no other Unilocal restaurant reviews in this small town to research ahead of time. The Bombonera Café was probably the only little restaurant open in when we visited last week. I’m sure there are few travelers in general to SBP, but even less in the Winter. This little café is right off the main piazza or centrale — — so you can’t miss it. I would believe they serve small sandwiches(think paninos and piadinas) and have a full bar. But… Bombonera was perfect for our needs. We just needed a light sandwich and something small to drink. I believe we had two caffes(me Caffee Macchiato and my brother Caffe Americano) — both great. And sandwiches were two paninos with prosciutto. I tried to order a piadina for me and a panino for my brother — –but obviously I’m not fluent in Italian and we both ended up with the same panino sandwich. It did hit the spot though. :) Our server was fast, efficient, and friendly. And she was great, even though she did not speak any English.(Which was a-okay with me.) There were several other locals who stopped in for a quick caffe or bite to eat — so we made a good choice. Our total bill for two panini, acqua, &2 caffes was only 9.20EUR. Pretty good deal too!
