Pretty great restaurant in Venice. It was recommended by our hotel and the food was delicious. Probably one of the best meals we had in Italy. The price wasn’t too bad either. I guess since it’s not located in the overly touristy area? I had the lasagna and it was delicious. One of the best lasagna I’ve had in my lifetime. Loved the cheesiness of it! My friends got their pasta w meat sauce and pasta w clams. Both my friends liked their dishes and I thought it was good as well. There was plenty of clams for my friends dish which is always a plus. We actually did their 3 course meal for 18 euros. So I also got their caprese salad and fries. My friends got their pork escalopes and salad. Everything was good! Remember though portions are HUGE! You can share the 3 course meal btw 2 people for sure… We also got their tiramisu for dessert and it was good! Nomnom! If I’m ever in Venice I would most definitely go back! :)

This was the first restaurant I went to in Venice. I was hungry and tired when I arrived in the evening. I took a walk and passed this restaurant. They had a staff standing outside promoting the restaurant. 3 course meal for € 18 which was a good deal! My dinner was: Spaghetti al pomodoro(spaghetti with tomato sauce) The spaghetti was al dente firm to the bite. The sauce was light, maybe just what I needed for that evening. Scaloppine al vino bianco(escalopes with white wine sauce) The pork escalopes was lean and tender. Insalata mista(mixed salad) The mixed salad was very refreshing. The mixture of balsamic vinegar mixed well and coat evenly with the vegetables. They were very generous with the portions. Sadly I did not manage to finish the pork escalopes. This was due to my unpleasant journey from the airport. I felt a little nauseous. The waitress asked me if there was something wrong with the pork escalopes. I said no, it was perfect. I asked to take away the leftovers.

Last night in Venice. Happened upon this spot when it was closed during the day. Thought the menu would please everyone I was traveling with. Looked it up on Unilocal.A few reviews but positive. We thought we were arriving early but the place was already packed at 7:30(kind of early in Italy). Luckily, they turned a table for 2 into a table for 3 for us. We started with the Diavola pizza that has spicy salami on it. The crust was thin and crisp, the salami was not super spicy but was nice on the pizza. I had the pasta carbonara-creamy, tasty and plated very nicely(see pic). Family members had pasta with prawns(scampi) and red sauce that was also a little spicy. It was flavorful and the prawns still had their heads(just in case this makes you squeamish). Also, the lasagna which was nicely done was not a solid brick like here. Father-in-law really enjoyed it. They gave us complimentary limoncello shots at the end of our meal. Service was decent considering that they were very busy. It was typically laid back and a little slow but we were easily able to grab our server’s attention. The look of the place reminded me a bit of some of the hipster joints in Brooklyn. I knew we discovered a great place, when people kept coming in looking to get seated and were willing to wait an hour(Remember that in Italy, they don’t rush you so it may have been longer). Also, there were lots of natives coming in to make reservations for that same night. Not a ton of tourists. So, if you’re going, make a reservation!

We learned early on that to find great food at a reasonable price we needed to head away from the main strip by the water. We found this gem while walking down alley’s and turning corners that in the US you might not turn down. They weren’t scary or anything, but you just didn’t know if there was anything down there! I’m the vegetarian of the group so I had a veggie pizza which was quite good. My carnivorous eating companions all enjoyed their meaty selections as well. Friendly service, warm atmosphere, we highly recommend this place to others!

Great value and delicious Italian pizza is tucked into the little haven of Al Vecio Canton, away from the madness of overpriced mass produced tourist fare around St Marks Square. I was introduced to Al Vecio Canton by a dear friend and resident of Venice, following which it had become a must eat place at least once on a trip to Venice. It’s a comfortable and homely restaurant with a little bar and tends to be frequented mostly by locals. Service is always welcoming with a relaxing feel to the trattoria. As well as pizza, they serve great pasta, salads and good desserts if you have any room left!
