C’est au bord d’un petit canal que vous trouvez ce petit bar chaleureux et convivial où règne un brouhaha agréable qui donne vie à cette endroit typique.
Vous consommez à l’intérieur ou le long du canal assis sur le muret. Les cicchetteria (Tapas) sont vraiment très bons et le choix en vins est conséquent.
Faites un tour dans cet endroit hors du temps le temps d’un apéro ou pour refaire le monde entre amis!

On a rainy February day in Venice we stopped in here to experience local Venetian culture at it’s best. Già Schiavi isn’t hindered by the stunning location: just a block away from a local gondola maker, you reach the enoteca by walking up the canalside where the boat builder is plying his trade.
It’s a fairly typical off-​licence at first glance, with row after row of bottles plastered with neon price-​tags. But the bar is antique wood, and the shelves and certificates attest to its pedigree.
Here is the perfect place to sample a glass of wine (ombré) and typical Venetian canapés, called cichetti. The young owner’s mother makes all of these by hand… she’s such an expert, she’s also written a recipe book that you can buy in the store.
Thr wine is perfectly priced at a euro for demijohn wine and a couple of euros for a better class of tipple. The cichetti are a typical mix of fish, meat and cheese toppings and all excellent value, starting at around € 1.20 a bite.

Since this place is also a store they have a good selection of wines, they were pretty slammed when we arrived, we had a few glasses of wine and cicchetti all were good, but nothing really stands out, just a fun place to stop by for a drink and a snack. If you are in the area stop by, it was fairly crowded so it felt a bit crammed, no worries strike up a good conversation and have fun. Service was great with some servers and maybe a language barrier with others… We tend to want to chat and perhaps it was a bit too busy for that. Anyways… we would return again on another visit if we are in the area.

agree with all the reviews that this place is quality, and it shows, it is always busy. we have used these guys as wine suppliers for a few different parties we have had in Venice and they never fail to live up to expectations.

then you add into that superb cichetti and desserts served with a little italian brashness. what more could you want?

Great little place for tapas if you are tied of Seafood pasta. You can eat inside standing or sitting outside on the bank of the canal. Next to the little bridge crossing the canal but never busy.

This place is a gem. Part liquor store (?), part bar with delicious cichetti (tapas-​style small bites on bread similar to pinxtos in Basque Country/​Spain). They staff there were perfectly nice and accommodating to non-​Italian speaking tourists who tried poorly to order in Italian. Grab a plate full of cichetti (try any of the ones with smoked fish to sample their regional specialty) and some wine and sit out by the canal for an inexpensive, delicious and impromptu picnic.
Another tip: Skip the gelato place next door — they are terribly rude, and worse, the gelato wasn’t good.

Are you tired of pizza and gelato yet? Are you ready for the real taste of Venice? This place will leave you questioning whether you really do like Italian food or if you even know what good food tastes like.
Crazy combinations of ingredients including a variety of cheeses, fruits, nuts, cured meats, and seafood all served on slices of baguette. These tapas style bars are the real taste of Venice, and this place does them very well served along with a large selection of wines from all price points.

The staff is slightly rude, the place is perfectly preserved, the food is simple yet satisfying, the wine selection is superb (Just don’t be an animal and ask for Barolo in a plastic cup…)
This is also a great place to buy wine to go or grappa you can’t really find in the US or at Duty Free.

Das Wichtigste vorweg: Nicht durch die unzähligen Flaschen in den Schaufenstern stören lassen! — Wenn man trotzdem Gusto auf Venedigs allerbeste Cicchetti hat, dann ist man hier richtig. Signora Alessandra bereitet die Cicchetti selbst immer wieder ganz frisch zu — und so schmecken sie auch!
Mit dem Vaporetto, «Zattere» (linea 2, 5.1 oder 5.2) leicht zu erreichen.

When in Venice, in addition to trying the local specialties (seafood, tiramisu, etc), I also recommend delving into their «cichetti” – unique Venetian-​style tapas, often served at a bar and eaten while standing and socializing. Vino Già Schiavi happens to be the perfect place to try them.
They have a wide selection of choices, most of which are a colorful combination of ingredients served atop a slice of baguette. Some of the ones I tried include: «ricotta cheese w/​walnut sauce & currants», and «smoked tuna w/​dandelions & balsamic» (see pics for the colorful presentation). As a rarity in Venice, prices are great (each item is around € 1.20 a piece), the ingredients are fresh, the staff is pleasant, and the crowd is lively.
They also have a few non-​bread items, including sliced salami. And for something more filling, they have a selection of sandwiches (see the chalkboard) – simple, but cheap and prepared fresh to order.
Great for a light, but thoroughly satisfying meal or snack. I went in the evening, and the place was hopping with locals.

Stumbled upon this tiny place late in the day, and it was just what we needed. Friendly staff with reasonably good English, huge wine selection and they’re happy to make suggestions from, and awesome chicchetti — I was thinking about the brie and anchovy that I had there for the rest of our trip.
It’s definitely small and crowded and kind of easy to walk right by, but it’s absolutely worth making a stop if you’re at all in the area.

A popular but most excellent place to grab a glass of wine or a spritz early in the evening. An excellent selection of cichetti and also a great selection of bottles of grappa for sale.

Seit vielen Jahren jedes Mal in Venedig immer wieder ein Muß!
Ein Gläschen Vino und Cicchette in der Hand und auf der Brücke: sofort man denkt wieder ernsthaft über einen Wohnortwechsel nach. Hätten wir bei uns im Norden doch wenigstens einen Bruchteil dieser Genußkultur und dieser Beiläufigkeit! Ausprobieren!

Lovely bacari, serving some of the more interesting cicchetti I had. The mascarpone and salmon roe was particularly memorable, the anchovies were delicious.
I think if you are buying spirits, you may be better off in a supermarket. I am not sure how good the price was on the bottle of wine I bought, but they did put it in bubble wrap for travelling, handy.
As with many bacari, there is nowhere to sit, and the toilet is private.
You could, as previously suggested, get a bottle and perch on the canal outside.

Der gemeine Venedig-​Tourist hat es bekanntlich nicht leicht, denn er hat die Stadt besetzt und macht dem Venezianer das Leben schwer. Darum ist der Venezianer meistens nicht besonders nett zum Touristen. Das Gute an dieser Bar ist, dass die Venezianer, die sie betreiben, entweder großartige Schauspieler oder wahnsinnig nette, herzliche Menschen sind. Nimmt man die Großartigkeit des Ortes sowie Weine und Speisen hinzu, ergibt das Ganze einen Lieblingsplatz.

So many bad points (busy, rushed staff, lack of seating, far too small) but it still comes out with oodles of character. Rugged, rustic but with the hustle and bustle you would expect of a more central location in a larger city. A true back alley (canal) gem.
If you want somewhere where the locals go, away from the tourists and the inflated prices of the more well know and somewhat passé establishments this is the place.
It doesn’t speak of fine dining or a crisp manicured setting but what you do get is a glimpse perhaps of the contemporary raw spirit of the city.

tout y est bon ! le vin (les effluves de fragolino rosso sont encore ancré dans ma mémoiré…) accompagné de petites bouchés mangé sur le pouce, parfait pour démarrer la vogalonga !
un rayon de soleil et hop ! on va chopper une glacé juste à coté, mais pas trop au risqué de né plus vouloir pagayer !

Last time I was in Venice, I was lucky enough to live just across the bridge from this A-​MAZING Enoteca! It was WONDERFUL!!! Definitely come here in the early evening, after a long day of walking the streets, or the biennale, or laying on the beaches in Lido… I was there with three girls and co-​architects — our days consisted of brief biennale visits, followed by long days of tanning, relaxing and drinking Spritz. Needless to say, by the end of the day we were exhausted, and after a quick shower we came to Enoteca Schiavi to restore ourselves.
The owner speaks only Italian, but that has never been a problem for us — he is a lovely older man, who smiles at everyone and has an uncanny sense of what wine works for the day, weather and general mood. We managed to say a few key words in Italian and after trying a couple wines we always found just what we needed. Since we came in several times every day [yes, living just over the bridge was GREAT], we got quite proficient with the wine charades. :) Although, if miming wine descriptions is not your strength, there are also stern young men who also work here who can speak English.
Get a bottle or two to take with you, and then enjoy a couple glasses of wine and some light snacks outside on the embankment.

Obwohl ich es auf der Liste hatte, bin ich dann doch zufällig darüber gestolpert. Wer würde schon eine Bar erwarten, wenn es im ersten Moment wie ein Weinladen aussieht?
Doch dieser hier ist schon was besonderes: Rustikale Theke, tolle Weine zu freundlichen Preisen, lecker Spritz, die besten und aufwendigsten Cichetti die wir in ganz Venedig bekommen haben und ein gemütliches Plätzchen auf der Mauer — ich glaube, wir waren sogar die einzigen Touristen Ich fand’s toll und hoffe, dass ich den Laden nächstes mal wiederfinde!

Ist ein Muss bei jedem Besuch, auch wenn es von mal zu mal mehr Touris werden. Doch das tut dem Genuss wenig Abbruch.
Es lohnt sich, mal Fragolino zu probieren.

…liegt ein bißchen abseits der Touristenpfade zwischen Salute und San Barnaba, ist aber ein absolutes Muß jedesmal, wenn wir in Venedig sind. Die Häppchen (Cicchetti), kleine Brotscheiben mit den köstlichen Aufstrichen (unbedingt Baccalà probieren, die venezianische Stockfischcreme), dazu ein Gläschen Wein (gerne den einfachen rosso oder bianco des Hauses — da macht man nie was falsch, Italiener trinken keinen schlechten Wein) oder Prosecco, das ist Urlaub. Alles im Stehen, es gibt keine Sitzplätze, man kann es sich aber auf der Brücke oder der Kanalmauer direkt vor der Tür gemütlich machen. Und wenn man seinen Lieblingswein gefunden hat, kann man auch gleich eine Flasche mitnehmen.
Hier trifft man eben nicht nur Touristen, sondern auch die Venezianer kommen gerne her. Um die Mittagszeit ist der Tresen meist dicht belagert.

Der Venezianer nimmt zwischen sechs und acht Uhr abends den einen oder anderen Apéritif. Üblicherweise tut er das nicht in seinen vier Wänden sondern an eigens dafür vorgesehenen öffentlichen Plätzen, wenn es nicht gerade regnet gern draußen, immer aber im Stehen.
Man trifft Bekannte, trinkt ein Gläschen Wein oder einen Sprizz, eine Weinschorle mit Aperol, Campari oder anderen Bittern versetzt, dazu servieren die klugen Gastronomen kleine Häppchen, Cichette genannt. Das können Crostini mit Bacalà (Stockfisch) sein oder ein paar mit Weißbrot, Knoblauch und Petersilie gratinierte Miesmuscheln, ein Scheibchen Mortadella oder ein Stück Käse, Oliven, Sardellen.
Für diese Häppchen zahlt der zurückhaltende Stammgast für gewöhnlich nicht, er kommt aber jeden Tag, das lohnt sich für den Wirt wahrscheinlich doch.
Ein guter Platz für Menschen mit Aperodurst ist das Cantinone già Schiavi, auch Vini al Bottegon genannt, unweit der Fondamenta delle Zattere, gegenüber der Giudecca.
Hier gibt es außer der turbulenten Vorabendstimmung, wenn alle Anwesenden durcheinanderschnattern und Neuigkeiten ausgetauscht werden neben dem Gläschen an der Bar auch eine famose Auswahl an Spirituosen und Venetoweinen aller Art zum Mitnehmen.
Wenn man freundlich fragt und der Barmann einen nett findet kann man möglicherweise einen seltsamen Wein namens «Fragolino» erstehen. Die Uva fragolina ist eine verbotene Traube, ihre unreife Schale soll ein giftiges Tannin enthalten und der Konsum mehrerer Flaschen am Stück ist daher nicht ratsam, ein Gläschen dieses nach reifen Erdbeeren duftenden meist frizzantig ausgebauten Getränks aber ein großes Vergnügen, ich jedenfalls hab sie alle überlebt. Gibt es in rot und in weiß.
Gerade hat mir eine Freundin eine Handvoll Fragolinatrauben aus Südtirol mitgebracht, die schmecken wirklich nach Erdbeeren und die Italiener wollen nicht von ihrem Anbau lassen.
Vor der Tür kann man sich im milden Abendlicht auf das Mäuerchen des San Trovasokanals setzen und die gegenüber liegende letzte venezianische Gondelwerft ansehen, käme da Sior Casanova um die Ecke, keiner würde sich wundern. Wahrscheinlich.
Nach einer guten Stunde Aufenthalt ist es dann Zeit für richtiges Essen, die Sinne vorbereitet für einen entspannten Abend, das Lächeln im Gesicht hat dann schon Substanz.
