Das essen war echt gut. Die Atmosphäre war typisch venezianisch. Die Preise waren etwas über spitzt. Preis-leistung war ok.

Excellent local food, unbeatable location, a decent mix of tourists and local customers, close to the Venetian Ghetto.

This was easily one of our best meals in Venice. EVERY item we ordered was scrumptious, with hardly any leftovers, the service impeccable, & the vino affordable. Reservations are recommended because by the time we left dinner, every table in the bar, dining area, and garden, was filled up. They definitely believe in the Italian slow food culture, so be prepared to sit back, not check your watch, and enjoy your food and company.

Great little local joint along a minor canal. We were treated just fine. Decent wine, great cicchietti. Reasonably priced. Nice garden area in back. We had the antipasti di mare and it was great. Ample portion, great variety and taste. Nice Vento white wine also. Best to have reservations unless you come early(like we did!). Recommended.

This was our first(of 2) dinners in Venice. When we sat down, I immediately thought, ok, we aren’t in tourist land anymore! Amazing how venturing off the beaten path from the main drag can really spice up your experience. We shared the simple green insalatas and the mixed seafood(hot) platter and bread and wine(which is worth getting a half liter of – you will sit and talk and linger like all the locals do here). Once you get past the oh no, I’m not a native-fear, this is a classic experience to remember. Sit outside.

We had the only 2 dishes that are seafood-free on the menu: spaguettis aglio e olio(garlic and oil) and alla carbonara. Both were € 10 and quite disappointing — not bad, but nothing to be remembered. Additionally, service is really bad — we waited 5 minutes at the counter waiting to pay, while waiters were buzzing around and totally ignored us! We could easily have left without paying. Maybe their seafood options are good, but we didn’t enjoy our meal.

If I had a big Italian family, it might look like this place. The front of the house is yelling at the back. There’s a dog in here because of the heavy but brief downpour, and his old lady is polishing her glass of white wine and walking out the door after smoking a cigarette. The waiter previously said something to her in Italian, and I’m guessing that dog doesn’t belong in a dining establishment. Then entire front of house erupts in loud goodbyes to another local. Five minutes later the dog wanders back in, and the waiter looks at him, points to the door, and tells the dog to get out. At the slightest whisper of rain earlier, the waiter ran outside, strong-arming tables inside as fast as he could. This guy can filet a cooked fish tableside in 39 seconds and assemble your Venetian cream dessert in 15. Dump some cream from a bucket, squeeze chocolate on it, shake cocoa powder on top, and drop 4 cookies on the plate. All in fifteen seconds. It’s hard to tell if he’s a little bit rushed and overwhelmed or if he dislikes tourists, but I would go with option A and give him the benefit of the doubt. Food: Their pastas look out of this world at everyone else’s tables. I’m watching the guy in the kitchen coat the pasta in the sauce in the pan with a flick of his wrist. — Venetian spaghetti– 5⁄5 black squid ink. Pasta cooked perfectly and sauce was so flavorful. Excellentttt — Mixed fish grill– 2⁄5 I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s 40 Euro and three different fresh catches, but there are soooo many bones and not enough flavor. Shrimp over cooked. — Afforementioned Venetian cream dessert– 5⁄5 I didn’t try this, but my buddy just about licked his plate. — Tiramisu– 3⁄5 while made in-house… I’m not Italian, but it’s not as good as mine ;) It’s kind of bland in flavor. I would definitely come back here to eat other things on the menu. Seafood dishes looked great. Talk about a fun, interesting experience. You feel like this place is the real deal.

0 stars. DONOT come here especially if you are a tourist. We were treated like second class citizens the moment we arrived. We were seated in a corner right next to the serving window at a dirty table. An Italian couple were seated next to us shortly after and the waiter gave them menus and drinks before us. He even tried to take their orders first but the couple told him to take ours first since we arrived before them. The entire dining experience here was terrible and ruined our last night in Venice. The food was OK, nothing amazing. When we tried to order a secondi the waiter pretty much refused and threw us our check. As we were counting money to pay he snatched the money and just told us to leave. I don’t understand what kind of service this is and the nerve of them to charge us 6 euros for cover charge when we got the worst service possible.

Just went here for dinner with my family and I; a party of 5. I don’t ask for much in a restaurant– good food, fast price and decent price are my requests and Osteria Ai 40 Ladroni fit all 3 perfectly. Service was OK, but I was always a gal that cared more about taste rather than service. I live for good food, not how others treat me. You give me a plate of good food, you can give me any attitude you want. It’s not like I’m tipping in Italy anyway ^_^ Among our party, we ordered the mussels and calamari as starters, seafood linguini, crab gnocchi, egg, bacon spaghetti with cream sauce for entrees and tiramisu, venetian cream with biscotti, white and black truffle for dessert. Everything was delicious, and good portions. Would definitely recommend to have dinner here and even return myself. Too bad they’re closed on Mondays.

This review is more about the employees at the restauran than the food, since they made such a negative impression on our party of four that it overshadowed the quality of the food. which is a definite«rookie» mistake if you’re in the restaurant business! We were brought to this restaurant by a local man whose boat we had commissioned for a lovely afternoon tour. He called ahead to ensure we had a reservation and said the food would be excellent. When we arrived, the loud head waiter asked the boat tour guide what our nationality was, and once he heard we were American he made it his special project to be obnoxious from start to finish. He stuck us in a corner near the kitchen and yelled and slammed dishes, ignored us, and marched around his grimy little domain of a restaurant barking orders at his staff. The only people he was nice to appeared to be the owners who were seated outside at a waterfront table. While the food was good, I can’t in good conscience recommend this restaurant. I only wish our fat little friend would vacation in southern California so we could return the favor and glare at him simply for his nationality!

TERRIBLEFOODANDTERRIBLESERVICE. This restaurant is out of the main tourist areas and was near where my family and I were staying. We ordered the Venetian starter plate at 14 euros/person when the bill came the waiter tried to charge us 18 euros/person. It’s not the money that matters here, it’s the fact that they tried to take advantage with us. We had to argue with the waiter until he finally relented. We ordered 4 main dishes, after we waited 20 minutes on the waiter, he walked over and said«hurry hurry!» before taking the order. 3 of the dishes were no more the edible but my mother ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp and none of us could stomach it. They were full of sand and tasted like someone ashed their cigarette on them. However this seems like a popular spot for locals which were obviously treated completely different from the tourists. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

The hubby and I are staying in a hotel around the corner and according to Unilocal this place was a great(nearby) spot for delicious Venetian cuisine. Overall, the food was fantastic and the service was attentive, especially for being a more casual restaurant. We ate lunch, and my only compliant was that I felt that the menu prices were misleading. Most of the primi courses were set for 2 people. The cost on the menu for our crab gnocchi was 12 euros(indicated for 2 people). However, when the bill arrived, we were charged 24 euros. Granted, 12 euros would have been a steal for 2 people — we were given two full plates. Just saying it felt a little sneaky — the menu should reflect the actual price for 2 people if the course is set for 2 people. Also, we were charged 4 euros for a «sitting fee.» We have become accustomed to these extra fees but was surprised about the charge since this was a restaurant, not a café or bar. Finally, even though other Unilocalers indicated that this restaurant accepts credit cards, we were denied this option and were told that only«cash is accepted.» Like I said earlier, the food was wonderful. We had the calamari appetizer(super fresh and well seasoned, 13 euros), crab gnocchi(best course for sure!), grilled shrimp(good, 13 euros) and a bottle of house white wine(12 euros). In total, our bill was 65 euros, which is a lot of money(for me) to spend on lunch for two people. Would I go back — yes! But probably for dinner.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel concierge on our first night in Venice. Since it was a cold and rainy evening, the restaurant was not very loud or crowded; however, it was still about 80% full by the time we were halfway through our meal. We ordered the seafood fettuccine and fish dinner for two. The fettuccine was a nice dish with a variety of fresh seafood. The fish dinner for two was generally good as well. Some of the fish was over cooked which was a shame. The flavors were still good, and the fish was well seasoned. We don’t mind whole fish with heads, but it was nice that the waiter deboned for us.

Everything was good: service, food, surroundings. The fish appetizer sample plate was the best appetizer I’ve ever eaten. I’m not the type of person who goes around saying that all the time. It really was the best. I wish I had taken some pictures.

We had our final meal in Venice at 40 Ladroni last Saturday night after having popped in a couple of days before for a lunchtime spritz when we checked out the lovely garden terrace. At lunchtime it was very quiet and most of the folk dining seemed to be builders from a development just down the canal we took this to be a good sign and so it turned out. We turned up without booking at around 8pm and despite being pretty busy we were soon found a table for two. If you don’t fancy the garden out back there are three tables at the front by the canal but you will need to book these well in advance. Despite, or perhaps because of, a fairly heavy night the previous evening at Harry’s Bar we were pretty ravenous so we decided to start with a primo plate each and then move on to a secondo. The pasta dishes here need to be ordered for two according to the menu, although perhaps a chat with the friendly waiting staff could get you a dish for one. We had the gnocchi with a crab and tomato sauce which was well cooked and very tasty just the thing to get you back on your feet after one too many cocktails the night before. The second courses proved more difficult as the first couple of fish dishes we attempted to order were not available(better that than offering up a frozen alternative as many places seem to do). After much debate we went with some grilled jumbo prawns, mixed fried fish, a salad and for the first times in over a week some frites. All very tasty, particularly the fried mixed fish which came in a lovely light batter a mix of squid, anchovies, scampi and baby shrimp. The wine list at 40 Ladroni while not being a stand out in terms of the choice is really great value for Venice. We had a very nice bottle of local Sauvignon which was 12EUR. As usual we had no room for dessert but we managed a quick coffee which came with some nice complementary chocolates on the side. We liked 40 Ladroni and it was a good place for a final meal in Venice. While the menu and cooking is nothing to write home about it’s still efficient and effective. What this place really has going for it, which sets it apart from the crowd, is the garden terrace and the value for money it offers both of which can be in short supply in Venice.

Kawumm-Küche in untouristischer Umgebung!
