(3.5÷5 stars) Unilocal 100 Challenge 2015 — 98⁄100; Countdown 8⁄10! Local India has six locations in the Tokyo area, most of which are on the Keio or Odakyu train lines. This particular one is close to the south exit of Sengawa station on the Keio line headed to Hachioji or Hashimoto(junction further down the line at Chofu). Once out the central exit, head straight ahead directly south along the main street for about three minutes — you’ll pass a Uniqlo store close to the corner, then a line of restaurants as you proceed further. I’ve hit this place both during the week and on weekends — it gets pretty crowded on weekends so come early! Lots of families with little kids too, which is quite surprising! Highlights: + Menu: 4⁄5 stars(usual offering of «bargain lunch» set that includes choice of three curries, salad, drink, rice or naan(free seconds of naan); there are a couple other plate lunch offerings as well; they do a good job of organizing curries by base ingredient with is very different from other places that separate by types of meat, etc.) + Ambiance: 3⁄5(fairly standard layout although four booths for groups of four or more are along the right wall as you enter; no over adornment of Indian decorations or pink/red color tones; in fact, it’s decorated more like a sandwich deli with lots of wood and beige/subdued tones) + Taste: 3.5÷5(spiciness is adjustable from 1 star(very mild) on up; better than your usual curries as those served here are slow-cooked, thick and not overly spiced) + Service: 3.5÷5(mix of Indian and Japanese staff; waitstaff are mostly young Japanese women who are attentive and responsive to your needs; the Indian staff are mostly involved with the cooking and preparations, but one of the senior staff also serves — he has a great, warm smile!) As I haven’t been here enough times yet, I’m rating this 3.5 stars for now. With future visits, additions/revisions will be made to reflect additional insights and experiences with the menu. It’s close to 4 stars already, but I want to see menu items and service at other hours of the day — stay tuned! Note: They have an unusual variety of naan here! All are priced at only ¥200, which is extremely cheap! I am used to seeing custom non-plain flavors starting at ¥350 ~ 500 at other restaurants, and up from there. Seconds on rice or naan are also a deal. Their naan itself is served fluffy and hot; however, the dough is a bit on the sweet side and cooked just a tad bit too long(look at the underside for how singed it is) — good texture and consistency as the temperature cools, so that’s a plus sign for the quality of dough used.
