We were staying in the area and asked our host for a great place to eat nearby. She recommended Ajikyu and so we headed over. She wrote the name on a post-it(in Japanese) and so we walked along comparing the signs on the street to the post-it. We found a match! This was the single greatest restaurant experience I have ever had. Hands down. The menu was written in Japanese on handmade paper and we couldn’t understand a word. We used our tourist book to ask the chef to bring whatever he recommended for the three of us for 7000 yen(about $ 60 U.S.) and were blown away. Soooooo kind and helpful and the food was the best we had in 10 days spent between Kyoto and Tokyo. This area is «local» in every sense. No tourists besides us but if you end up here find it! Superb and Oishi-katta!
