How surprising! An ethnic general store stands in the midst of Teramachi Ktyogoku commercial arcade! Kyoto looks like a closed inner city in appearance, but I think it has actually generosity to welcome ethnic culture and be open to an outer world. I dropped in here with a friend of mine, who was a big fan of ethnic things. That is… she had stayed in India approximately one year in her youth days. She was haunted by the charm of India and backpacked the country loaming about various sites. She had some incidents or accidents there. For example, she was bitten by an abandoned dog. Being afraid of mad dog disease, she hurried to the physician. Then she said to the doctor, «Dog, bite!!!» To tell the truth she was not good at English, so she explained only in broken English and a gesture. But the doctor understood what she was saying and gave her a shot. Besides this, she had been drawn and almost flown in Ganjis river. She swam in the rainy season when the water level of the river went up. She was a good swimmer and was confident in her swimming. An Indian man discovered her drawing and lent her the hand to rescue her. She had a narrow escape from the death. Back to the main topic, she was beside herself with joy to see the ample Asian articles such as casual wears, accessories and bits and pieces. Colorful and showy designed goods are miscellaneously lined up. I felt as if I went astray in a deep ethnic market. I was looking for summer clogs but unfortunately I didn’t find my favorite. When you come here, you get excited to see all sorts of ethnic goods of various countries.
