To Saaya B., first reviewer of this place — thank you for the recommendation! We were looking for a cheap but tasty izakaya place nearby, and this was it. Fortunately, they also had an English menu because our Japanese is pretty poor. We sat upstairs on the tatami mats, which is kind of like an attic with tons of scribbles on the wall from other patrons. Our first order was a kushikatsu combo, mostly of vegetables. It was good, but their yakitori is even better. I liked the cartilage, chicken thigh, and tongue the best. They are barbecued well and are tender. Unlike some other places I’ve been to, the cartilage is just that on a stick — with no other meat — but I still enjoyed it. On the wall, we spotted an item called the«VHS Totoro» and decided to take a chance and order it. It turned out to be a yogurt and sake drink that was delicious! Perhaps one of our biggest gripes with this place is that as foreigners, we experienced some slight discrimination. While they were not forthcoming or obviously rude in behavior, we did notice that our orders started coming in much later than people who ordered before us. So, it might be better to come with someone who speaks Japanese well or just have a lot of patience.

Here is typical Japanese style of izakaya! I have been here a couple of times and I love here since of the day we can have Yakitori 60yen(generally 120yen) every Wednesday! However, if you are heavy drinker and want to drink a lot, the payment will be more than you expected! These drink is inexpensive. I usually order the salad with Namayuba(soy milk skin, a food product made from soybeans). It’s good way to receive vegetable and yummy! Kakitori, grilled chicken, is ordinary a Japanese kind of skewered chicken. We often have grilled chicken wing tip, boneless chicken leg with welsh onion, chicken gristle! All we get is yummy! Also I love Umeshu, plum wine here. Especially Aotani! It’s sweet but not too sweet! Love that! It’s typical Japanese Izakaya. If you are looking for like that, it’s good to go!
