I think it was really interesting that the sweets in Japan are not nearly as sweet as the sweets in America. I actually prefer that so when the bf wanted to grab a donut before jumping on the train I didn’t mind. As expected the donut was not nearly as sweet. He ended up getting a glazed donut and at this location they had a variety of other non donut related items so I just got a ham croissant sandwich. The wait wasn’t bad, you pretty much grabbed the items you wanted and then paid for it. Service was good too.

LOVE Mister Donut! I ate Mister Donut for four(4) days in a row. I would get three(3) donuts at a time, once I discovered how amazing their donuts are. I wouldn’t eat all three at once… they functioned as snacks for later too. yeah, snacks! The donuts are better than any others I have had, especially any in America. Can’t go wrong with the glazed donuts, because yes they are different than any others you will have had. The circle donut hole rings, cream filled, whip cream filled, baked ball filled ones, and etc. were all good. Clearly I don’t know what they were called, but I’m sure you can’t go wrong with many options here. This location had a smoking room, so unlike some restaurants in Japan, the smoking section air did not just bleed into the whole place. But this location has limited seating and is busy, so we unfortunately were always left to sit in the smoking room.

The best donuts I’ve ever tasted, and trust me I’ve had more than my fair share of donuts. It’s part of the same building as Kyoto Station but located on the outside of the building next to the 7 – 11. Must get the donut that looks like many donut holes stuck together in a ring circular shape. It had a delicious flavor but even better is the texture. At first I couldn’t quite put my finger on how to describe it but it is like a strong mochi like texture but not super soft. Instead it’s got an almost elastic like texture and when you are eating it you just have the best«mouth feel.» That’s right I watch Andrew Zimmern of bizarre foods. I had the other donuts along with this circular one literally every day I had in kyoto. No shame just great taste. The crème filled ones are good and the jelly filled small ones but don’t leave without trying the circular one! The staff could tell me the price for things in English and the basic ordering lingo. They were very polite and cleaned the place like it was the Queens palace. If only they had this in the states! When I’m back to Japan I will be eating this again.

Mister Donut is my must have whenever I am in Japan or Taiwan or wherever it may be since it is not in the US anymore. There is one in Godfrey, IL, but it doesn’t sell the chewy kind of donuts that the chains in Japan and Taiwan sell. As I just hinted at, the one major difference between the normal doughnuts in the US and the donuts that Mister Donut sells in Japan is the dough. It has this amazing texture, which I am in love with. It is like a cross between chewy mochi(rice cake) and normal, fluffy dough. It also tastes a lot less greasy and fattening than the typical US donut. In other words, it is a light, delicious mochi donut!(I also really like mochi as well) If it is your first time, I would recommend trying the original pon de ring glazed donut! It is basically a ring of donut holes put together in a circle to form a donut. During my ~9 day Japan Trip, we probably got mister donut at least 7 times if not more. This location was the most frequented one. In fact, I even brought some back to the US for my friends and family to try and enjoy. That is how much I love this donut shop and how good it is!

Conveniently located when you just get to the Kyoto station by Shinkansen or leaving by Shinkansen. It’s in front of the Isetan and next to the sets of stairs and escalators. It has a seating area shared with Café du Monde but generally full. A must get here is a pon de ring. The Mister Donut mascot is Pon de Lion so this donut is his mane of hair. What’s so special about this donut? Well it’s chewy like mochi. That’s right. It a mochi donut. The wafu style donut is fluffy with a little chew but doesn’t compare to the pon de ring. There’s a special going on right now for certain donuts. Only 100 yen a piece! They also have Cronuts but I’m cheap so I’ll maybe get them next time. I only wish that we has a Mister Donut in America. Sigh. I’ll miss you pon de ring. I truly will.
