I like Japanese sweets, among them I have a special memory about Mitarashi Dango, which are three or four dumplings on a skewer dipped in sweet syrup. I served Mitarashi Dango as one of the menu at Culture Festival in my high school days. It was very popular and became hot seller! By the way I saw one customer after another buy this sweet and wanted to have one here. It had three dumplings but the shape was round and not ball but flat. Syrup tastes hot and sweet in some shops, but in this shop it tastes sweet, which matched my taste. I talked to the female owner about various things, while eating dumplings. She came from Osaka where she had a business, so she said the arrays of sweets in this shop is like Osaka-style. In the front side of the shop goods are lined up in a glass show case. In Kyoto the goods are arrayed in the inner part of the shop. Many old houses in Kyoto are called«Unagi no Nedoko» or eel’s bedroom, which is narrow and long shaped. So dwellers go to the depth in their houses. I saw the cultural difference between Osaka and Kyoto in the shop. Except Mitarashidango seasonal confectionaries were provided, which looked yummy. I would like to buy others, but my bag was too small to store some. Next time I will try others!
