We actually noticed this place during our visit to Nishiki Market last year but the queue was really long and we were tight for time. So this round, to my delight, no queue and we were quickly shown to a seat. They have a front and back seating area and we were showed to the back, which we later realised was the smoking area. So if you are not comfortable with cigarette smoke, do ask to be seated in the front. Fresh osyters and other shellfish are displayed in front, which are so enticing. And we are pleased to try the Magaki oysters(winter oysters) from Hokkaido which were so plump and juicy. Freshness ftw! They have many items on the menu and we tried the grilled oysters with house sauce, and small scallops which were quite heavy tasting on terms of the sauce they used. The yuba soup was very clear and a bit bland. But still, very tasty. I would recommend to go for all fresh raw seafood as they are so tasty and remains my best eat here at the market.

If you are ever in the Nishiki Market in the Kyoto area, you have to make a stop at this little hole in the wall Seafood place called Oyster Daiyasu and if you are have a fetish for amazing seafood, this is definitely the place to go. What they specialize in are Oysters that are flown in from all parts of Japan. The Oyster’s here are amazing and i prefer them either raw or grilled hot off the Charcoal Grill. They use to be a very small seafood stall before but have expanded and now have a dining area in the back as well but it is a Smoking Area. The dining space here as well as any other Japanese Restaurant you go to in Japan is very tight, so if you are a big guy like me, it may be a bit uncomfortable but i could care less as long as i get my Grilled and Raw Oyster fix here at Oyster Daiyasu. They serve much more things than Oysters here such as Sazae or Sea Snail, they have Scallops and many other types of Seafood too. They also have fried seafood items, so if you can’t eat the raw stuff then you have this option as well. I have been coming to this place religiously for the past 10 years now and it’s like tradition that i eat here even if it’s only just a little because it will always have a place in my heart whenever i visit Japan each and every year. So i would definitely recommend this place to at least try if you you do love fresh seafood and i promise you that you won’t leave here disappointed. I will give you fair warning, they are extremely busy here so good luck…

We visited this place after my friend saw a line for days when he visited the Nishiki Market on a Saturday. Obviously with a line that long, it had to be good! Our server was great and helpful with recommendations for all of the dishes that we tried. Our favorites were the Magaki oysters from Hokkaido and the grilled oyster with a Japanese yam on top. I never would have put those two items together, but they were absolutely delicious! This was one of my favorite experiences in Kyoto along with walking through the market.
