a bit hard to find in the labyrinth below the station, but superb coffee and friendly service. So far this is the second best coffee Ive had on this Japan trip — and in land of craft coffee that’s saying a lot! (the best by the way was also here in Kyoto at %Arabica).
BTW, to find Ogwa, its by the subway line gates, close to the entrance to the «Cube»

I stayed at the hotel above this place. I had s few meals here. The place is across the street from the station, it’s clean, and not crowded. The prices are reasonable and the staff were friendly. They did not speak English but my limited Japanese and some pointing worked fine. The food quality was great. Their Gâteau ou Chocolat Uji Matcha was the best matcha cake I have had in my life! I highly recommend this place.

One of my favorite coffee shop as it’s not that crowed as other shops near Kyoto station and the service are nice. Most of the costumer here are reading books or studying, and the clerk will never pressure you to get out.
After you order the food or drink, the clerk will bring it to your seat. The seats are with counters or table. In side the shop it is non smoking but out side the shop there are smoking cafeteria.
The cafeteria has a composed and the jazz music makes the place cool. The counter seats has a decoration with antiquate tea cups. It makes the place fancy.
Sometimes there are some business men or local people who are talking but usually the place is settled down.
If you don’t like crowd or want to focus on reading and others, this place one choice near Kyoto station.
