Interestingly, Ootoya in NYC is a bit fancier. Must be a translation of when it comes across the ocean. In Kyoto it was classified as fast food. If only fast food was like this in the States! The menu was quite extensive and you get a bell at the table to ring when you need service. I opted for a grilled fish. My mom when for the Japanese style congee and my aunt decided to try the stir fried chicken. The meal comes with a tray of assorted pickles and sides with rice and miso soup. The grilled fish was delicious as I’ve encountered in Japan. They know how to cook fish. The congee was equally as good. Light and once again the sides went well with it. Everything was presented just as nice as any meal I had in Kyoto. If this is fast food, I wish we had this in the States. The meal was healthy, portions was just right and equally well presented. I loved my time in Kyoto and the food I’ve had has been outstanding and memorable.

Although it is a chain store, the quality of the food are amazing and the cost are good. I have been a big fan of this restaurant for it menu and the services. The food are always tasty and healthy. And they have always a new menu with the height of the season, which is one of my enjoyments. Most of the set menu are less the 900 yen. Also they have various type of Japanese food, Donburi(bowl of rice with food on top), Soba, Udon and others. I never get bored with the taste of chicken and vegetables dressed with a thick starchy black vinegar sauce. Also they have drink bar that you could drink as much drinks as you want for only 288 yen. So when I go with my friends to eat dinner I have some drink bar so we could have some chat later. During lunch they also have Bento set to do take outs.
