A wonderful little café located in a quiet neighborhood just northeast of the bamboo grove in Arashiyama. If you are walking through the bamboo grove from south to north it is a perfect place to stop and get a snack or drink. I got a green tea ice cream parfait, which is sort of a Kyoto specialty. This place does it perfectly! The presentation is beautiful, with a thick slice of green tea cake on top of the ice cream. Red beans and mochi balls are present too. To top it off there is a little maple leaf for decoration(Kaede means maple, as our hostess helpfully explained to us). It was so amazing that I almost ate the maple leaf. At least, I tasted it in case it was some kind of candy(nope, just a leaf). The apple cinnamon tea was also really good. Just a really nice place to spend some time after a long walk.
