Great American breakfast(for Tokyo) in a great location. Pancakes are legit!

Been living in Tokyo for about 6 months now. I love Japanese food and culture. But sometimes you just remember you’re a hot blooded American and you need a bit of nostalgia. I’ve been craving an American breakfast for a month now, and Denny’s doesn’t cut it, and a McGriddle won’t due. I’m from the south, good ol’ Atlanta Ga. When you grow up on your grandmothers cooking, you can’t just let that go no matter how far you move. I found Bubbys’ in Ark Hill. Goooooooddamn this food is good! Everything was well cooked, deli ou and authentic. Felt like a hog-bear hybrid when I waddled up out of this joint. Damn near his in a corner and licked my plate. If you’re in Japan for living, traveling or whatever… Get your ass on down there and try it out. I’ll be the big guy across the room starring your plate down.

Bubby’s… It’s a great American Style diner, but the service and quality can be a bit like the weather sometimes: inconsistent, unpredictable, often good, but when it’s bad, it’s really disappointing. The menu is generally good, with brunch features, such as Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, and the standard Eggs, Toast, Meat(s) & Homefries. The Cobb Salad is fine, but not quite to the level Suji’s offered back when they were in business up the street. Sandwiches, burgers, etc are acceptable, but not the best in town. The real issue is the service. You can compare it to the weather on the one hand, but perhaps a Forrest Gump«Box of Chocolates» scenario would be more on point, because you really never know what you’re gonna get. When a nice burger hits the table and the fried are stone cold, there’s a problem. When the average wait time for your order stretches beyond 20 minutes, there’s a problem. When the best they can do when you politely mention«there’s a problem»(even in Japanese), the standard«I have no excuse»(もしわけございません)repeated ad infinitum, is not a solution. Essentially, Bubby’s has all the ingredients to make a good showing of it at it’s superb Ark Hills location. But they need to step it up. They should start with the service…

Our family eats here fairly regularly because it is a pseudo American restaurant. Service and food here is dependent on the individual. Some days it takes 45 minutes to get food, some days it comes in a normal amount of time. Some days service is good, some days the the servers represent the lowest common denominator. Burgers are decent, so is pulled pork, jerk chicken; they’re known for their pies which are also just decent. Nachos are a complete waste of money, a full order is exactly 20 chips and a glop of guacamole and a pile of green onions. In general, everything is a bit overpriced for the size and quality because of its location. I really want to like Bubby’s, but they make it hard to sometimes.

I’ve eaten at Bubby’s many times now because of its convenient location and outdoor seating. My experiences have been mixed. The pies, breakfasts, and bottomless coffee stand out as the best things about this place. Portion sizes vary. Burgers and sandwiches feel small and not particularly tasty. Fries are invariably hard and chewy. Cocktails, particularly margaritas, are pathetic. Beer selection kind of sucks too. Where are the American craft beers? Service could be much better. The staff seems a bit indifferent, slow and inflexible.

Tough to find a better(western) breakfast or pie spot around here but this place is great. With a rotating menu coupled with their staple pancake, waffles, and pie menu — can’t really complain too much. My go-to item on the menu is the chocolate chip and banana pancakes but you can’t go wrong with most of the items on it.

My first meal in Tokyo after arriving, funny enough, wasn’t Japanese, but rather American/Deli food. This place was pretty good. I had a cheeseburger, which came with fries and everything was cooked well with some good flavors coming through. We also had a pumpkin pie for dessert, which was also good. The chocolate chip scone and chocolate chip cookies were okay. I’d recommend this spot if you were in the area and dying for American food.

I’ve only eaten here once but I want to go back. It was really good. The servings were«American sized» and I couldn’t even clean my plate. Next time I want to try the pie. It looked tasty. Nice place. Very relaxed atmosphere. I enjoyed it a lot.

I never get the ight Cobb salads in Japan. Never. But this place serves decent cobb salads. It comes with chicken, but if it was made with turkey instead it would make the salad even better though. I agree with Geoff, the service is very slow… But other Bubby’s locations seem to have the same problems so I guess we just have to be a little patient… I liked their apple pie and lemon pie but it looks like they only have lemon pie on the menu for a limited time. If you want a classic american breakfast or brunch in Roppongi, I’d recommend this place.

Ate for a late breakfast twice while staying in Tokyo. It’s located Ark Hills. Nice area with lots of food options. Also a beer garden right outside, too. Service is a bit slow, but it must take a while to cook those eggs ;) Overall, good spot for American style breakfast when you don’t want fish and rice. Lol. One visit I had the Lincoln breakfast. Probably biggest breakfast on the menu: eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes. Also came with coffee. I opted for iced coffee. I like how they freeze coffee and use as cubes so your coffee doesn’t get watered down. Second visit I had the salmon/bagel with a side of eggs. Bagel was really tough. Fair warning. Lots of other good dishes were ordered in the group. Benedict and French toast platters got thumbs up. Pies also looked good.

It’s not a place to go out of your way to seek out. However, if you’re in the area and thinking about beers and standard American food, this place is perfect. Dressed burgers were quite good, similar to what you’d get at Outback Steakhouse or Applebee’s back home, but smaller.

Great location, good selection of beers /drinks and great selection of main dishes especially the burgers. Appetizers need to be improved — small portions on the nachos and spicy wing. Staff are very professional. I visited three times already and will go there again.
