The Hiroo neighborhood is a popular area for foreigners due to the large number of embassies in the vicinity. Unlike nearby Roppongi, however, this is more of a quiet community for families rather than an expat party town. Just around the corner are Arisugawa Park, which is a lovely green space in the city, and National Azabu supermarket for when you’re craving(expensive) foreign groceries. While I think the neighborhood itself is quite nice, the metro station gets –2 stars. It’s old, in serious need of renovation, and a potential safety hazard. The stairways are narrow and have a sharp turn in the middle with a tiny landing. There are no elevators, so this station is not 1) wheelchair-friendly for the disabled, 2) stroller-friendly for families with very small children, or 3) tourist-friendly for visitors traveling with heavy luggage. For these reasons, if you are staying in the area and have a lot of big suitcases, you’re probably better off getting off the train at Ebisu or Roppongi Station and taking a taxi to your destination.
