Continuing to sniff out excellent little local spots off the beaten track. Today’s was my third visit here and each time it gets better. Hand drawn chai spice or specialty tea is the main attraction here and it never disappoints. It’s the perfect mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Today’s was cinnamon chai with added spice(+¥130) to give the tea extra kick. It came creamy, fragrant with cinnamon aroma, and topped with a thick layer of steamed milk, with cinnamon sprinkled on top(see photo). Most importantly, the teas are always served at exactly the right temperature. You’ll never get scalded as the teas are close to a hot lukewarm. Why? So you can experience the flavor at its best, adjusted for a maximum experience. There are also pastries and light meals available, but as I was still full from lunch, I passed today. However, the muffins looked absolutely scrumptious. Fresh, seasonal ingredients are always featured and today’s were pumpkin, sweet potato and one other I can’t recall. I’ll definitely try one next time. The café itself is larger than it looks from the outside. Choose a counter seat if you’re alone, or if it’s not crowded, one of the tables set for two. There are a couple settings for two groups of four, but nothing larger. The lighting is comfortably subdued, with a combination of natural lighting and incandescent bulbs. Finally, the front of the shop is set up to display and sell teas for take home, tea making utensils and accessories, plus the day’s pastry goods. Great place to chill and at the same time, get refreshed by the spicy fragrances of the shop and your favorite tea. Enjoy!
