From the outside, it looked an obvious tourist trap, so it’s really my fault that I had a subpar dining experience… can’t say I haven’t been warned. PROS: Ample seating with different seating styles(banquet, Eastern, Western, etc.) depending on which floor of the restaurant. I went to the first level and sat at the sushi bar. CONS: Really mediocre to below average food. The sushi was unremarkable and reminded me of a Japanese take-out restaurant in the United States. If they were located in the US this would have been fine, but given that they are in Osaka… Also tried the tempura and fried octopus. Not crunchy enough and the breading fell right off when you’re dipping your food in the sauce. The octopus was chewy and not fresh. I take full responsibility for choosing this restaurant in a hangry state. I just wish my fears weren’t proven correct. Ambiance was loud and chaotic. The restaurant also allows smoking, so non-smokers take note.

Although Gankozushi specializes in sushi as its name suggests, they offer a huge selection of other traditional Japanese food as well ranging from tecchiri(fugu), udon, tempura, tonkatsu, hot pot, steak, etc. I like their kaiseki style lunch bento box options, you get so much variety of food for ¥2000($ 18). It’s a good place for a group dining because there’s enough options for everyone.
