My mother and I went to this place a couple of weeks ago when we were in Tokyo and it was the most beautiful fruit desserts you’ve ever seen – and I’m including Paris! We both had a strawberry mousse cake dessert which was unbelievably delicious – It was strawberry season and their strawberries are just so unique – smaller and so sweet. We took home some Melon Pan and they were amazing! We brought back to the U.S. some packaged ones and they don’t compare at all. My mother told me that she had so many fond memories from her childhood of Takano (she is in her late 70’s) and it did not disappoint. It is still the veritable institution that it always has been.

Exquisite looking desserts, and amazing quality fruits, but it will cost you! I tried their signature Melon Pan, which I thought was just ok– I couldn’t taste much melon flavor, but the bun smelled very fragrant. The other fruits they had looked perfect, but were very very pricey. I also tried the melon ice cream, which cost a lot, but worth trying once. The desserts here are also very pricey, but I wish I had tried one of their strawberry desserts since they were in season. It’s worth taking a look here if you’re already in the Shinjuku station and have some time to explore.
