IFYOUGOTOONERAMENSHOPINTOKYOMAKEITTHISONE. Conveniently located next to the Waseda Metro station, Budouka has to be my favorite ramen shop in all of Tokyo. The soup is thick in the Iekei style, and you can see them loading the pork bones in from your seat at the counter. That might be a turn off to some, but it lets you know you’re getting a rich, flavorful soup. The tsukemono(pickles) are also among the best I’ve had in Japan. When you go, get the small bowl for 850 yen, as it’s near impossible to eat the medium or large — I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get a large. Also get the all you can eat rice for 50 yen more. The way to eat this is to eat everything out of the soup first, and then mix the leftover broth and your rice together with the pickles, as the broth is a bit too rich to eat by itself. Also, when you walk in, they’ll ask you how much«flavor» you want, the firmness of your noodles, and how much fat. If you’re not sure, just say«futsuu» for everything, but I personally like to go with no fat. It still tastes great, and makes this bowl of incredibly unhealthy ramen slightly better for you, I guess. Seriously though, the staff is always cool and fun to talk to, they usually have 90s hip hop playing, and the soup is amazing. Oh, and come hungry, as I usually want to die from being so full after I leave. In a good way.
