D’habitude is a small French restaurant in the Ishikawa section north of Shinjuku in Tokyo. Went there after our first maternity class at the Tokyo Women’s Medical University Hospital. I was not initially impressed by the small exterior, but because my wife had a made a reservation, we entered. It was for a sunday lunch. The place could seat about 20, and it was half full when we arrived. The menu is in Japanese and French, so my wife had to translate for me. $ 15 or 1500 yen for a set menu lunch including dessert and a choice of coffee or tea. This is the cheapest French fare I have had anywhere, and it was probably the best. I must state that the French cooking was good, but it was prbably the well marbled Japanese beef that really impressed me. I had seen the full marbled Japanese beef at Supermarkets, but had not tried it yet. The French steak, made with Japanese marbled beef simply melted in my mouth. Amazing. The seelction of cake and salad was excellent, as was the poissons that my wife had ordered. I was blown most unexpectedly. while we were eating, several couples entered the restaurant, and were politely turned away due to the restaurant being fully booked. Better get your reservation early!
