Isomarusuisan Kabukicho Central Road

Horrible experience. Worst so far this trip to Tokyo. I’ve lived here before for years and can say with confidence this represents a low point in Japanese dining. I saw little evidence of any substance from their prior glowing Unilocal reviews.
First, the service was poor. They leave people waiting in line outside because several tables were not being cleared. Not too big of a deal. But sit down and you get to wait and wait for any attention. Doesn’t matter if they hear and acknowledge your requests for service. Just keep waiting. However they seem to like Chinese patrons and will indulge 5 – 10 minutes of their menu questions — while you wait.
The food arrives and it’s shellfish to grill yourself. OK we’re game, but do tell us how. Waitress says to leave them on the grill for one minute. After confirming her instructions (I speak Japanese), she revises it to 3 minutes. Not being fans of botulism, we doubled that — but still not enough for their weak grills.
When the shellfish was done, it just tasted as funky as you can imagine. I’ve had these same items elsewhere many times before with very different, favorable results. We also ordered several kitchen items that were just eh.
Needing to rid the taste from our mouths, we were compelled to the culinary polar opposite and enjoyed a decent Italian place across the street.

Very very nice izakaya in the middle of Shinjuku. The atmosphere is lively but quiet. Waiters speak English and the restaurant has English menu as well. Each table has a grill, where you can cook your own fish. The restaurant also has many dished that are prepared by their chefs, so you don’t need to cook if you don’t want to. We had delicious squid, a giant tuna bone (exquisite) and some other dishes that I don’t recall. The price is good, on the higher side if you compare it with other izakaya. Recommended place!

I came here after the robot show. It is open for 24 hours. and it has a lot of seafood. We ordered scallops, what looked like sardines with garlic, some crab mousse but you could grill. In fact everything you could grill except for the sushi and the salads that they offer.
Maybe you could even grill them yourself too! Everything was so fresh! also they had fresh squid which you could grill. We had to order 2.

In A Nutshell:
–The «Grilled Tuna Meat Around the Gill» is awesome! You need to come here just for that alone.
