Stumbled upon this lunch special and I left the restaurant full and thirst quenched on a hot sunny day. The spaghetti was al dente, extra parmasean cheese ready at the table for you to add. Add a small fee of 110 yen and you can drink as much soda, tea, or coffee as you wish. The lunch set comes with a clear broth but it was quite bland, despite adding the spices available. Hence the star taken off. I’d rather have a salad with more lettuce. Great that service is quick with a call bell at your own table, and servers let you eat your meal in peace when you haven’t called them over. Would definitely visit again if I pass by one of their chain restaurants and I’m hungry!

I’m not sure why, but Japanese Italian food is a truly unique thing. There are Italian restaurants all over Japan, but the chain that sticks out most in my mind is Saizeriya. I came here frequently as a student because a) it’s inexpensive b) it has incredibly late hours, something very uncommon about Japanese restaurants. This particular Saizeriya was a hop skip and jump away from my dorm, which made it all the more convenient. I love how Saizeriya’s have a button to push when you’re ready to order. It’s so much more convenient than having to flag down a server. The drink bar is also great because for less than 200 yen, you can get up and refill your drink as much as you want. This place will get crowded on late weekend nights, due to it’s late hours and the fact that it’s very close to Waseda campus.

Saizeriya. A wonderful place to get Japanese Italian food for really really low prices. You can eat here for 500 yen. Seriously. Also, it’s actually pretty good Italian food and you can get a thing called«doria» which is a truly Japanese Italian fusion dish with pasta sauce and rice. There are many locations of Saizeriya all around Tokyo but this one at Waseda will always be dear to me!
