My brother and I were on a quick jaunt to Tokyo for some work meetings — when I say quick, I mean 48 hours. A friend who has been living in Japan for five years, made some time to meet up with us — she took us to her favorite. Delicious Fukuoka style of ramen. The pork was amazing in the broth with the thinner noodles, and on a cold day like we had — it hit the spot! We also tried the specialty of Fukuoka — mentaiko on rice. Oishii! While we know it’s a franchise and we can even get it in NYC — it was great to be in Ueno enjoying it with a friend from home. ごちそうさま

I’ve been sort of boycotting Ippudo ever since experiencing the disaster location in NYC. It’s been years though and I guess going to Ippudo in Japan is acceptable. I really did miss their gyouza. This location was normal Ippudo atmosphere. I got the gyouza as usual but wasn’t in the ramen mood so instead I tried some pork on rice. It was delicious and a good portion size. These are items not available in NYC. Ridiculous. I also missed the moyashi so much and ate lots of it! Yummy. Overall this is a good location to get lunch and try some fantastic ramen.
