Quick kebab bite on busy Ameyayokocho street across from JR Ueno station. Stopped by here for a quick snack to hold me over until I get to Tsukiji for sushi. There are actually two Moses kebab stands within 100 meters of each other. The one I went to had park bench seating. The kebab– ordered a mix chili kebab. Mixed beef and chicken, Shredded veggies and spicy sauce. Average compared to Deniz in Roppongi and other Tokyo kebab places. Meat was a little tough and so was the bread. It did the job though. Kept my stomach from growling before my lunch sushi meal. I give this place 2.5 stars rounded up to 3. Will try the other kebab spot nearby before coming back to this one. 30⁄100 Japan Unilocal Challenge.

I’ll be honest — I wasn’t thinking a turkish style doner kebab would be on my list of dishes during my weekend jaunt to Tokyo, but low and behold after hearing endorsement after endorsement of the Ueno Station strip that houses no fewer than eight doner shops I had to give Moses’ Kebab a go, and I’m glad I did. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? You won’t likely even be able to distinguish Moses’ Kebab from the rest of the stalls with the sole exception of the ‘MM’ on the hats of the employees. Go up to the counter, place your order, hand over your(small) payment, and you’re good to go. I won’t say this is the cleanest establishment in Tokyo, but what doner spot is? Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? My mixed meat doner debab(pita style as opposed to wrap style) was 500JPY($ 4.60USD at time of writing), which was by far the cheapest meal I had in Tokyo. Not only that, but the portion was nothing to scoff at, and at the end of my kebab I was pleasantly content. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Were these the absolute highest quality ingredients you can find? Obviously not, but they sure did taste great. You had all the essentials here: a warm pita, properly cooked meats, a bit of lettuce, and some truly excellent creamy spicy sauce that brought everything together. I’d love to have had some more peripherals like peppers or a yogurt sauce but for 500JPY I couldn’t really complain. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I’m tempted here, but the surrounding shops are so very similar that I can’t specifically call out Moses’ as being the best. No Star Granted.

Greasy goodness ~. This place was recommended in my guide book. If you’re visiting Tokyo, definitely check out the Ueno Zoo and Ameyokochō. Both are right at Ueno Station. Back to Moses’ döners. For 500 yen, you get a pita packed with meat, cabbage, tomatoes and sauce. I got the ‘level 1′ on the spice meter, but it was still hot. I could also taste some curry, which was a good mix for the chicken. The pieces of chicken were extremely juicy and flavourful. Come here if you’re grabbing a quick meal; it’s basically a food stand with benches(no tables). Make sure to have tissues with you because the döner is delicious, but eating one can get messy. Good for: cheap eat, tourists

I walked by Moses San Bruno Kebab a couple of times in Ameyoko and decided to give it a try, The meat was pretty flavorful but not as much as from what I’ve had before. It was a pretty interesting place as there always seemed to have a few people eating nearby. I probably would try this place again. Which wouldn’t normally be what I would be eating when visiting Tokyo but something different to try.
