I often enjoy a good book in a coffee shop. These days, I’m lucky if I find a seat at the local Bridgehead — and even then, the one I frequent can get stuffy, packed with strollers, and just plain loud. What a breath of fresh air Palms is! When you walk in the door, you’re greeted by bright open space, thanks to immense, twenty-foot ceilings. And yet despite being incredibly airy, you feel immediately at home. Photographs and paintings — good ones — by local artists grace the walls. Seating is set at a reasonable distance apart, with a couch mid-room to boot; there will be no awkward betwixt-the-tables-shuffling at this joint. Service is with a smile, orders are hand-delivered. And the food is mighty good. A crispy savoury sandwich, pitch-perfect latte, and yummy crumby dessert left me happily sated. Although the purpose of my latest visit was to chat, next time I will undoubtedly bring a book. I call the couch!!!
