I have gone to GLOW Spa before and enjoyed their Green Science Facial. Pedicure and manicures were ok. The manicure station is very hard to get in and out of. Recently I decided to go in for the«works» waxing, manicure pedicure and facial. Waxing — was fine. Manicure — Very uncomfortable station. Every single person who came in(including staff) struggled with the chairs. My manicure was okay — definately not worthy of the extra cost for the upgraded one — simply just parrifin wax. I noticed while getting my pedicure my nails were bumpy(I had gotten shellac) when I showed the girl(I had thought it was wax) she seemed surprised and helped me try to wipe it off. Eventually they peeled, I showed her(no apology) and simply asked«do you want me to redo them?» Well — yes. She said«I THINK I can do it.» Right there at that moment they lost my business forever. She was a nice girl but truly didn’t seem to value the work she did, I would have been moritifed if I was her. As I was getting them redone she kept sayng she didn’t trust the«curing» machines and her collegue next to me said(like I knew nothing about shellac) that perhaps it was the oil in my nails. I have been getting shellac(at many spas — around the world even!) for years I have NEVER had a problem. I remained zen. She then recommended to her colleague to try another machine as there has been trouble with other ones. Finally — about 30 min later it was fixed. Pedicure — ok. Again not worth the extra cost for the special one. Facial — ok. I have had it better there. Worst part was I booked 90 minutes they did less than an 1 hour. This is where the service just blew my mind. I went up to the counter to check out and ensure I wasn’t charged for the 90 minutes or the extra shellac. The lady at the front desk was clearly not happy I was questioning anything. When I explained the mistake they had made with my nails — no sorry, or apologies — she just said — we only charged you once. Good service wouldn’t have charged me anything but whatever I am not going to argue as long as it was fixed. I then mentioned the 60 min facial(in face it was less than 60 min) verus 90 minutes. The lady who did my facial was standing there and said«Oh, my bad. People don’t nomrally ask for 90 minutes so I didn’t notice» That was it. No sorry. No accountability — clearly MY fault for asking for something that not a lot of people ask for. The front desk clerk continued to be unimpressed. I paid and got the heck out. Never to return! Sad. It has potential. But overpriced and staff(for the most part) aren’t that qualified to ask for those prices. And frankly even if they were, their service skills are subpar. I see it in a lot of spas, who think they are cooler than the city they are in. When the places that are actually cool — take BD North — are cool b/c they are about customer serivce and work with their team to always improve their skills. Fingers crossed they open a spa portion soon! But there are other GREAT places around Barrie –that have GREAT service.

Glow smells nice, looks and feels very clean, and everyone seems to know what they’re doing. They are kind enough to offer refreshments and sandals, and magazines(that are not outdated) as well which are nice added touches, and the over the counter products that they sell arn’t so bad either(which says a lot about a place). I go there for waxing mostly but i have had other things done as well. Having extremely sensitive skin, I’ve tried so many different ways or removing hair and been to so many different places to find the right person and cleanest spa I can. I think this is the one in Barrie. Recommendations: make sure staff is awake before they begin working(had a sleepy pedicure once that wasn’t worth the price), and on that note, maybe make a booking for after 10:30!
