We love coming back to Woody’s. We have tried the Baby Back Ribs, the St Louis ribs, the beef brisket, the wings and the smoked Prime Rib. Our favorite sides are the BBQ beans and the cole slaw. We have never been dissapointed. We just can’t get enough of Woody’s.

I took my wife for lunch to Woody’s on a Tuesday. I am a certified BBQ Judge, and love to try BBQ restaurants. We were seated quickly on the patio, a nice sunny day. Our waitress came within a few minutes and took our drink order, and our food order. The drinks(2 diet cokes) took almost 10 minutes. Our server appologized, as a lare group came in after us, and she was moving tables and chairs. Our Food came within 5 minutes later.(total time 18 minutes from when we sat down, which is pretty good). We ordered the Alabama Sausage and Cornbread, and a Beef Brisket with Cornbread, and two sides, cole slaw and sweet potato fries. Our server pointed out the 4BBQ sauces on the table, and explained what they were. Well, the Beef Brisket was very good. A nice smoke ring, nice smoke flavour, cooked just about right, only it was a little dry. I still really enjoyed it. The Sausage on the other hand, was dissapointing. They are not made on location. They are mass produced somewhere else, and only grilled on the Char Griller. No hint of smoke, and tasted mass produced. The cornbread was ok, but more like cake than bread. Too sweet. Coleslaw was pretty good. Sweet potato fries were also pretty good. Overall, service was fast, but not all the food met expectations. I will try it again sometime and try the ribs. I hope they are close to the brisket. Although, $ 39 for two, for lunch incl tip and tax, with no alcohol is a little pricey.

Visited at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Only one other table in the place was occupied. Waitress was less than friendly and helpful. Was excited to try their«authentic Southern» BBQ, as we haven’t had much luck finding anything that even closely resembles the BBQ we used to get in Texas — born in Calgary and raised in Houston, lived there 36 years before coming to Canada, so have learned a thing or two about great BBQ. Went to try one of the Southern Sides, which weren’t available, and we were informed by the waitress«it’s usually okra anyway». She attempted to disguise it’s not being available due to a shortage at the farm level — «bad crop». Initially I thought, «good.use fresh vegetables». But that was quickly proven an error… The vegetables chosen by myself were the green beans and baked potato. My wife chose the mac and cheese and green beans. The Mac and Cheese was bland at best and just boring… had less than a frozen Stouffers taste — more like styrofoam. The green beans were canned. I ordered the Woody’s plate with three items to get a selection of items. In Texas, the beef is king, so I judge any BBQ joint by the quality of its brisket — if you advertise it as awesome, it better be. In the case of Woody’s — it was awful. Tough, and completely leatherlike. It obviously hadn’t come to the proper temp for tenderness. The pulled pork resembled canned cat food and was quite tasteless. The turkey was the best of the meats, but also bland and slightly dry. The choice of sauces, while plentiful, were simply variations of vinegar with no added benefit to the meal. My wife ordered the brisket sandwich, and with each bite, she would only end up pulling the meat from the bun. The corn bread was horrible — too much sugar. More like eating a piece of poundcake than a piece of cornbread. The only high point of the meal was the fried pickles. They weren’t actually all that bad, but not worth the trip. We also found it quite odd that there was no choice of sparkling water or bottled water, despite their having a bar. All we could obtain was lukewarm tap water. This was most definitely a huge letdown. We ended up spending $ 65 for a very disappointing and fairly inedible meal, and there isn’t a snow balls chance in hell we’ll be back to waste more of our money.

Disappointing. Having eaten a lot of Southern BBQ, I was looking forward to possibility of having something close to home. The brisket in the sandwich was dried out and was completely unappetizing. No return visit for me.
