We had just gotten into Halifax and were looking for something light at 3:00pm on a Sunday. We headed to a gourmet deli and arrived around 3:15, and found the kitchen had closed(sign on the door and the Unilocal review said they were open to 5:00). So we headed out to someplace else. We found Café L’Acadie(after driving past it twice) and we were pleasantly surprised. No-one was in the restaurant and after the waiter said the kitchen was still open, we sat down. My wife has a club sandwich and I had the Rappie Pie. They were both fantastic. They offered a free soup(that day it was a Vegetable and Fricots). I tried the Fricots and it was delicious. This was what we were looking for.

We LOVED this restaurant! Visiting from Montréal, we took recommendations fromFamily living in Halifax to eat here since we were eager to try some traditional Acadian cuisine. We were NOT disappointed and will definitely be back during our next visit. The portions are HUGE, the food is fresh, the staff is friendly and helpful. Please go here is you like Acadian food. So far, it’s the BEST I’ve tried!!!

Traditional Acadian Cuisine in Bedford /Halifax I have to say 2 thumbs up for Gary and the crew of Café L’Acadie located at 636 Bedford Hwy. Bedford NS.(By the Bluenose Hotel). We have eaten here twice in the last month and both times we were very pleased with their food quality, service and atmosphere. The first time we ate at Café L’Acadie we arrived when one of their famous«Kitchen party’s» were going on. The kitchen party consists of musicians having a traditional Cèilidh with Acadian style music that gets your legs jumping and you can’t help but get caught up into a very good time. Do order their Seafood chowder you will not regret it, fantastic! On yesterday’s occasion I had their 2 pc Fish and Chips with very tasty coleslaw. The fish consist of a generous portion of haddock(they are huge) done in a very light batter making the Haddock stay firm, none greasy(un-like a lot of other restaurants in Halifax) with a terrific light crunch on the outside, delicious, best fish and chips in Halifax hands down. My wife had the Acadian traditional Râpure pie. This one is full(and I mean full) of flavorful chicken and has a perfect crisp golden brown crust that just enhances the delicious savory flavors of this Râpure pie. It comes with a garden salad and a fresh in house made sweet onion and poppyseed dressing. My wife is Acadian and makes Râpure at home and after eating the overly generous portion(Did I say they serve huge portions at this restaurant??) she said it was one of the better Râpures she has eaten, her quote, «a great fix for when your in the need of Râpure pie and a taste of home». To finish our meal,(besides having a great conversation with the owner Gary) I decided to try the Maple Bread Pudding with Vanilla ice cream(never had bread pudding before). When it arrived my eyes just opened wide at the size of this dessert and my nose delightfully engulfed with this spicy ginger cake smell that was heightened by the sweet hot maple sauce that surrounded this cake/pudding. What can I say, never had bread pudding before, however after eating this gem of a dessert at Café L’Acadie I’ll be eating it again and soon! Overall for us, great both times, we recommending giving them a try, you will not be disappointed! Look for Café L’Acadie on the Bedford Hwy(brick building) next to the Old Bluenose hotel, your first time will not be your last! Cheers.

Best food we had on our trip! We had pan fried haddock and also the French meat pie. The food is great! Don’t be put off by the commercial neighborhood. Have the maple bread pudding!

This was exactly what I was looking for during my two nights in Truro. Friendly waitress greeted me and explained the traditional Acadian dishes on the menu. I ordered the beef pie, which was delicious. The beef was flavourful and well seasoned. I believed the beef was not minced, which left a great meaty texture unlike ground beef. The sweet beans, and Caesar salad were executed well. Also free cup of soup with entrees. Went back for the salt fish cakes the next night, which were expertly pan fried.

Today the special was a pan fried fish with some acadian veggies, soup, and a potato(their fries, or baked potato) — I opted for the baked potato. Lunch specials at $ 9.99 usually don’t taste this good. Lunch specials at twice the price usually don’t taste this good. Amazing friendly service, nice Acadian music, very clean, and the food made me so happy. Missed it 2x driving by — it’s near the inn, across from the convenience store. I recommend for out of towners like me or for locals looking for a nice spot to catch up. Open 7AM — 9PM!

Don’t be put off by the fact that this eatery is attached to an old motel. This little spot is a real find. It’s nice that it’s just a short drive off the highway. We just stopped in for breakfast. My partner ordered the fish cakes which were delicious. The fish cakes came with home made baked beans and home fries. I had the Stonehouse breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, and home made bread. Loved it! The service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. Everything was fresh and home made. We’re looking forward to our next visit. The washrooms were clean and tidy. Parking is in front of the restaurant in a private lot shared by the motel.

Café l’Acadie has a fantastic menu with delicious food. My favorite is the pan fried haddock. The haddock has a tasty coating on it. It is cooked just right. They make a beautiful strawberry shortcake too. Another favorite is the chicken salad sandwich!
