I noticed the signed called ‘cheers’ near the patio of rose theater downtown Brampton last summer and finally stopped into this little pub. Growing up I watched Sam, Dianne, Rebecca, Carla and Cliff on the familiar TV series called Cheers, so I was definitely curious to check out this bar /restaurant called ‘cheers’. Sadly, around 4:30pm on a Monday, there weren’t any cheers going on in this bar, in fact no one was there except for me and my husband and the father /son ownership. I ordered a $ 5 bottle of Heineken and sat at the bar and spoke with what I believe to the owner. My first question was how come you chose the name cheers? Is it any relation to the television sitcom cheers? He gave a jolly answer like its a nice friendly name. The setting was nothing like cheers, nor did he seem familiar with the TV show. He was a nice man and we chatted about his home country Jamaica. They had a chalk board menu listing traditional Caribbean foods like ox tail and jerk chicken. I noticed DJ equipment set up and a large dance floor and asked about that. He said it generally gets busy for the nightlife around 10−11pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I hope this business stays put, downtown Brampton can really use some night clubs. I plan on going back one weekend night to try ox tail and get my groove on.
