This cozy spot along the coast is now in its eighth season(open mid-May to mid-Oct). I’ve enjoyed it over the years. It’s always had an emphasis on freshness, with herbs and vegetables coming from the organic garden 200 yards away, locally sourced meat and fish and no deep fryer in the place. Good coffee(including espresso), free wifi, chatty staff that has always tried to please. Interesting sodas to choose from. And local art(paintings, photography, jewelry, cards)(available for purchase) on every bit of wall surface in the place. It’s a local café + artisan’s gallery. This year — under new management — the traditions continue, but have been updated. The new fish tacos with mango slices are playing with Lunenburg County’s seafood traditions and I think it turned out great. The blue cheese & bacon burger on a home made bun was flawless. And the haddock chowder followed by rhubarb custard pie(seasonal) was perfection on my visit on a dreary NS day. I can also vouch for the chocolate pecan pie, so several great new additions to the menu. In addition to daily service, Tuesday and Friday evenings dinner is served. This is a great, friendly spot. I always leave feeling better than when I arrived.

I wasn’t at the coffee shop the day Cooper was here with his family but I’m thinking we’re not getting the full story since every time we’ve been here, the staff are friendly, especially«the old lady» who is always willing to help. And I’ve never seen this place turn down business. Ive seen them go out of their way to ofer directions to non customers and they’ve generally been very accommodating with almost any request. Its possible they were too busy the day you were there to do takeout.

The opposite of friendly if you have kids. It’s true, the place is the only stop for miles around when on a driving trip along the coast of Nova Scotia. It is cute. It does have a lovely décor. And the coffee is quite good. However, it seems they’d prefer not dealing with families with kids. We asked if we could simply order some sandwiches to go, but the old lady behind the counter said, «We don’t do take-out.» The old lady’s younger counter mate contradicted her and said, «We could easily wrap some sandwiches,» but the old lady glared her down and shook her head. The old lady’s hostility toward us was blatant; she had a fake smile but her eyes screamed: Screw You All and Get Out of My Restaurant. I Have No Time for Kids! My wife and I did get coffees to go, just so we could tip the young girl who was willing to accommodate us, and the fact that there was nowhere else to stop, but if I’d have preferred not spending a dime. My thought is, a little competition within eye-shot of this place and nurse Ratched will have to smarten up and start accepting the dynamics of summertime clientele.

The only café for miles and it will do. Friendly service, a cozy atmosphere, and decent food. The cake, soup, and latte I sampled were all adequate. The little biscuit that accompanied the soup was a highlight. They have internet. They host pasta dinners weekly throughout the summer. Open May-October.

Cute, quirky, old school. This spot exudes nothing but lovely, as visitors are instantly eased with its cooling approach to café. Delicious muffins, good coffee, and the opportunity for beer and wine. Wonderful! Its an escape from the chic and urban approach thats been a whirlwind in the java scene. With free wi-fi, its café meets beach-house, and the local art further adds to its charm. If you are out this way, pop in for a time and a chill.
