Delicious tapas in a comfy, hip environment. Some portions were a little small for the price. The yucca frites were delicious and a generous portion. It would have been nice to have the homemade ketchup separate from the frites instead of on top. Another fairly priced dish were the mussels — we had the creamy sauce and goat cheese which was bursting with flavour. Meatballs and chorizo/shrimp were good but small. We found the calamari/octopus could have been better… It was a bit too charred and somehow still chewy. Bruschetta had a few too many salty notes. We are not heavy eaters and we spent $ 23 on food per person before taxes, ordering 8 dishes for 4 people.

Fantastic! Came here based on a whim and everyone else’s rating. Everything is very authentic. You’ll find something in the menu that is exactly what you are looking for… And something that will make you come back. My new favourite place in Burlington.

Well worth the 1.15 hr drive from home to have lunch. The location is interesting in the Food Basic strip plaza but don’t let that turn you off. Once you walk in the atmosphere is warm and welcoming with an open kitchen and great lighting. We ordered tapas from the dinner menu to start. Highly recommend the grilled calamari and the octopus. We added the shrimp with chorizo with a rich spicy tomato sauce, so good I can eat that all day with a baguette to sop up the sauce. My main was the pulled pork with yucca fries. Fries were good with home made ketchup and mayo on them. Next time I would ask for the ketchup and mayo on the side since it made the fries soggy. The pull pork could have used more seasoning in the form of a sauce. My guests had salmon and salad and shrimp taco and salad. They enjoyed it all. The best part is the meal came to $ 67 which included 2 classes of wine. Unbelievable!!! Overall a great experience with efficient wait staff checking on us regularly. Will definitely come back for the tapas menu

Great menu, will go back again and again to try it all! We cant say enough good things about the food, just wonderful. We had the mushroom pizza, bread basket, and beet salad with a beer. We ordered a few other items but they got misplaced or lost. We will return, with great expectations. Well worth a visit.

Ridiculously good tapas/Spanish restaurant also doing double duty as your«local» with a great selection of craft and imported beers. This place is not huge and it can get busy Friday/Saturday night. If you’re looking for a sit down at a certain time, I’d highly recommend calling for reservations. Service is both friendly and knowledgeable. The bread basket($ 4) and the Yucca Frites($ 6) can easily fill two people looking for a beer and some finger foods. Add one or two tapas and you and your companion will walk out stuffed. But highly satisfied.

A great place for a group of friends/family to go for dinner. The Tapas format, where everyone shares all the dishes, makes for a very congenial time. The food we had was excellent, and it was great to sample so many different dishes. The pizza was super(pulled pork and bacon), the Lime shrimp tacos also very good. We also had patatas bravas, which are sort of fried potatoes with a spicy ketchup and garlic aioli dressing, yummy. I didn’t taste this one, but the escargot also got good marks. If you have a younger person in the crowd(or just young at heart) you simply must have the ‘smores dessert. A mini-hibachi, skewers, marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers etc. — great fun. We all left saying ‘gotta come back’. One of the most enjoyable dinners I’ve had in a very long time.

A Modern Day«Cheers» with a Spanish Tapas Twist The word«Fion» has a number of meanings but the one that perhaps best pertains to Barra Fion is «something representing a group of friends», and that definition certainly fits this social eatery in Burlington. This places is filled with lots of friendly discussions and happy people. Located in a small strip plaza in Burlington, it is difficult to get a sense of what exists inside until you are… well, inside. The smallish store front is easy to miss from a distance but the ambiance, service and food quality are hard to miss once you’re inside. You will definitely get that«I must be downtown» feeling. I have always been a big fan of the«tapas» method of dining which consists of a number of small plates for sharing, however Spanish tapas with their love of sausage and other fatty foods can be great or awful, depending on the establishment. Barra Fion has a wide open kitchen at the back and uses very fresh ingredients to create many flavorful dishes ranging from light to heavier fare. The signature dishes include the Smoked Chicken Empanadas, which were excellent and their mussels. The only suggestion for the kitchen would be to use a thinner and less«crispy» piece of bread for the Mushrooms on Toast(trying to cut into it sent half of it flying :-). But everything we ordered was good. The service we received was also warm and friendly. Katia was excellent and was always there when we needed her. We felt her sense of humility and when we asked to sit at a table for four, we were accommodated without attitude(I understand that may have been difficult if we were there earlier) and now the bench by the kitchen would be our favorite spot! We will definitely be going back to Barra Fion and I’m sure I’ll be there when I am dining solo, up at the bar. Thanks for a wonderful evening! PS I think you’re gonna need a bigger bar… lol

Nice place. It used to be a yoga studio I was told. This space is kind of impressive to the point that is practically out of place. This place looks like it belongs in downtown Burlington, Oakville, Toronto — take your pick. It looks like an establishment that is too upscale to be as affordable as it is and to be sharing a strip mall with Pizza Hut and Food Basics. We went for lunch, lunch in Burlington where we know lunch very well and the plethora of choices within a 10 minute drive. This place is special for Burlington in a sense that these types of places are few and far between but to charge 12 dollars for an entire lunch menu which includes a white or red wine or a local craft beer? This is sort of a steal… The choices are quite a few too, sandwiches, shrimp tacos, flat breads, etc. 12 bucks! I ended up going with Pacific caught salmon and a side salad. The portion size isn’t huge but it’s a great taste and a nice change for a good value. This is the type of place I’d go to for a CHANGE in what I eat more often. I can only go to McDonald’s, A&W, Little Caesar’s etc only so often. Break your pattern man, break it. Come here for a 12 dollar lunch at a nice sit down place and feel like you had a 40 dollar lunch. I’m coming back here to change up what I have for next time. It’s not every day I will have fish that isn’t fried on a Friday for lunch. This place can easily break the fast food habit at almost fast food prices. When we arrived there was maybe 15 people in the restaurant. By the time we left the place was almost at capacity. It seems the good food for good prices has caught on and understandably so. By the way the local beer I ended up with was Nickel Brook’s Cause and Effect which is a lower IBU but still hoppy and tasty brew made right here in Burlington.

I looked at the coupons on my desk at work for an idea for lunch and I wasn’t too excited about anything, so I did a little digging on the Inet for some inspiration. I came across Barrafion on another website and decided to check out the reviews on Unilocal… low and behold. no listing. I decided to scout out this new spanish influenced Tapas concept. Barrafion Tapas and Barrel. located in the upper part of Burlington(Upper Middle and Guelph Line) is roughly 6 weeks old. It is located near the Gator Ted’s Sport bar and Grill(who also owns Barrafion) in the stripmall on the corner. Very unassuming from the outside, but warm and inviting on the inside. Chalkboard walls, dark wood accents, warm orange and red colors really lend itself to the Spanish theme. What attracted me here was there Mon-Fri lunch feature which is $ 12 and it includes a 16oz Local draft beer or a 5oz glass of wine. It seems to a rising trend in the Burlington area to offer a prix fixe lunch menu that includes an alcoholic beverage. An awesome value considering what fast food options that are supposedly a cheaper alternative than a sit down meal. Since I was a single diner, I sat at the bar. A great selection of imported and some local craft beers peppered the draft taps. They also had an eclectic selection of bottled beers as well. The service here was quick and friendly. The menu was explained thoroughly and some very good recommendations for lunch were given. I opted for the 16oz Nickelbrook beer and the Sandwich de cerno asado(Pulled pork sliders with Spanish styled egg on a brioche with Yucca fries topped with a homemade paprika ketchup and garlic aioli). The order was placed and as I waited I enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. Cool chalk drawings were decorative and informative(features, winelists, beer options) the music was chill and the staff was friendly and talkative. My food arrived pretty quickly and I was impressed with the portion sizes. The pulled pork sliders were very good. The buns were fresh and the pork was moist and tender. The yucca fries were awesome and the homemade ketchup had a excellent kick. If your looking to experience the new prix fixe trend in Burlington which will give you a freshly made meal with a beverage(beer or wine) for $ 12. I would suggest Barrafion… or you can have the Big Mac combo across the parking lot for $ 11.just saying.
