After visiting this restaurant only once, I will most definitely NOT be returning. Poor service started as soon as we walked in the door. Waited there awkwardly for about 5 minutes, as we watched employees standing around talking amongst themselves. Not one of them called over and said they would be with us shortly. Finally we were seated and as we began to order, I had a question about the Menu. Simply wanted to know what type of sauce was on a specific sandwich, as the name for it in the menu wasn’t something i had ever heard of. The waitress then told me that this particular sandwich didn’t come with sauce. What? I showed her the menu and she said she didn’t know what it was. Lack of proper training in my opinion. She didn’t even offer to find out and let me know. We ordered a Caesar salad as an appetizer. I ordered the sandwich with the mysterious sauce, and my colleague ordered fish and chips. When our salad came out, we were about 2 bites in when we noticed a short, thick black hair sticking off a piece of lettuce. GROSS! Had to wait about 10 minutes for our waitress to even come check on us, and when we told her about the hair, she just said she would get us a new salad. No apology or anything. Finally our meal came out, and we were both very impressed. Looked and tasted very good. But then, over half way through the meal, my colleague picked up one of his fries, and once again, there was a short, thick black hair on his plate. We immediately called over our waitress, and she went and got the Manager for us. We explained to him that it was completely unacceptable and Disgusting that there was not one, but two hairs in our meal. He then went on and explained that everyone in the kitchen wears hair nets and that it was impossible for hair to get on the food. He kept looking at my colleague, insinuating that he had put the hairs there himself! I don’t think so! Hairs soaked in dressing and grease definitely did not come from us! Especially since my colleague had a buzz cut! After arguing with the Manager for almost 20 minutes, he finally said he would comp our food, but we had to pay for drinks. Sad that the food was so good though! A week later I got an email from the owner apologizing for the hair in our food, and he even gave me a $ 10 gift certificate for our next visit. I told him I didn’t need it because I will never be back!

I have to admit, I was skeptical dining here due to the lack of online presence, but must admit was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. The restaurant is divided into two sections: a bar and a eatery(hence the name: Katz Bar + Eatery). It’s a great sports bar, with several tv’s in the front and back of the restaurant. We sat at a booth in the eatery and had our own private tv to watch TSN’s «Plays of the Week». The service started off slow, we waited awkwardly to be seated, then again to order, but once the food arrived the server came back often to check up on us, making the overall service very good. I ordered the tangy thai chicken stir fry over chow mein. It came with five chicken balls topped with sweet thai chile sauce and a medley of vegetables(a dozen as per the menu). I know, risky business getting anything but a burger at a sports bar, but it really hit the spot and I don’t regret it. The portion size was a little small, but it was satisfying. Don’t expect authentic Asian chow mein, just a tasteful light meal. My date ordered the steak fajitas. It came with a generous portion of meat delivered on a sizzling plate. The chipotle bbq sauce had a kick to it and the meat was well seasoned. No complaints about the fajitas. Tip: on Wednesday’s you save $ 8 on chicken fajitas. Overall, the bar + eatery exceeded my expectations. The serving portions could have been larger for the price we paid, and the tables a little cleaner(I had a hard time finding a clean table and settled on the cleaner one), but the quality of the food and the servers made up for it. This place is worth trying on game nights, just don’t bring the kids.

Happy New Year, or so we thought. Advertised as a place for youngsters to come eat and experience an early New Years. I wonder how this place stays in business. Disorganized and chaotic are two of my opening observations. Slow service and costly food added to our disappointment. Following the meal(which was not awful but definitely worth the money) we waited for the celebration scheduled for 8:00pm. At 7:50 our waitress came over to inform us the manager had postponed the celebration till 8:30. Needless to say with two young children up past their bedtime this was out of the question. Maybe things are better the other 364 days of the year but we won’t ever go back to find out.

To start this review we’ve only been to this place after work once. When we go it’s usually just for lunch and it’s pretty quiet at lunch time. The food is pretty consistent considering I’ve only had I think 2 menu items different from burgers. As far as the burgers go for a pub they are good. For a while the consistency on the add on fries was simply not there. When we first started going the servings were well dressed and I think that is what kept us going there for a while but then 2 times in a row we had issues but since then everything is back as it should be although I haven’t upgraded my fries since probably because I’m just trying to eat better/less. What I am talking about(sorry for not mentioning it sooner) is that you can upgrade your side fries to poutine, something else(forgot what) and what is called«Jenny Craig». The Jenny Craig version if I recall correctly has cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon basically like a loaded baked potato instead on top of fries which is really good! Anyway there are pitcher specials or half pitcher specials when we go for lunch which is usually Friday and the occasional Thursday as well. The beer is done properly. Their taps are really kept in good condition and the beer is never flat or bad. This is really important to our lunch group whenever we go to eat because as far as their beer goes and how well it is kept it is one of the best in the area if not the best. The service is friendly, very friendly and they have a loyalty program for lunch in that every 6th lunch is free. The food is good, the service is better and the beer is the best.
