Went to the Black Bull a couple of weeks ago. The service was very good. The food wasn’t. Ordered the Bull’s own Meat and Potato Pie. Sounds good when you read the menu. Well it turned out to be a plate of stew, with over cooked mushy meat, chunks of under cooked almost cold potatoes in a brown gravy that the only flavour was bitter, with a chunk of dry cooked puff pastry just sitting on top. The vegetables were cold under cooked hard cauliflower and huge also under cooked cold carrots. Both tasteless.

A decent neighborhood pub. The $ 10 beer and burger special is pretty good. The patty is clearly hand packed and excellent. The beer selection could be a nudge better. But this place isn’t really your yuppie, hipster craft beer bar. It’s more for your blue collar types who work and live in the area.

Another installment of Friday lunches in Burlington has led my co-workers and I to a new place called the Black Bull. English style pub with a lot going on during the weeknights from what I hear. A local neighbourhood pub, that has it share of locals who like to share some food and a pint. The bar has ample seating and a medium size patio. There is also a games room with pool tables and assorted video games. There is also a small stage in the back for local bands to perform or to showcase the local karaōke night. The service was good and the bartender was friendly. They had a great deal for our lunch deal on Friday. A burger with a pint of beer for $ 10 bucks. My coworker and I opted for the burgers. I had the special and he had the Bullseye BBQ burger. One thing that I noticed is that they had Sam Adams beer on tap. Not a usual tap choice in many bars and was a welcome choice. The food came out quickly and we were quite surprised how big the burgers were. The toppings and the buns were fresh and the sides were hot(fries). If you looking for a local neighbourhood pub experience, hot food, good size portions, and friendly service… the Black Bull is a good choice

Went here for a lunch today(Friday) as we usually go out for lunch on Fridays. In all my years of working in Burlington I never got around to going to Black Bull until today. The place seems like a bit of a dive but it does have the atmosphere for being that type of place, a bar and nightlife place first and a restaurant second. There’s a small room off to the left that has billiards and some coin op games adding to the bar dive ambiance. There’s a decent amount of tvs on the walls so sports is always going on. It was kind of quiet when we entered today with barely another patron there but more showed up for lunch or liquid lunch which ever. I had ordered an Oktoberfest Sam Adams which you do not see very often up here. In fact I barely see Sam Adams at all. For lunch I had ordered the Bull BBQ Burger. It was served on an Ace Bakery bun, Bull’s Eye BBQ sauce, onion straws and bacon. The fries that came on the side were very good(yellow Yukon Gold potatoes). Overall the lunch was good. My burger and fries with gravy and a pint after tax was 23 bucks so lunch was 28 bucks. That’s normally what lunch costs when we’re adding a pint to it. Overall it was a good experience.

Went for Sunday lunch this past weekend with four kids. Appetizers were all half price and they were holding a Oktoberfest beer stein holding competition. Needless to say, an average Sunday lunch turned into a great Oktoberfest party complete with silly hats and free t-shirts! The arcade is great for keeping older kids busy. Food was excellent and we enjoyed the Samuel Adams sponsored afternoon. Definitely a must-visit for great food and atmosphere.

Fish and chips were amazing. And everyone else’s food looked good, especially the chicken sliders.
