Caffe Crema is a deep South Calgary gem. I started going about two years ago when a friend of mine recommended it, and now it’s my go-to coffee place. The atmosphere is reminiscent of something you’d find in Kensington, and the ambience is both conducive to conversation and quiet contemplation. As a student i’ve really appreciated the addition of their quiet room – which I often use when I’m working on a paper or studying for an exam. The staff are friendly and easy to talk to, and their menu is awesome. I love their Chai Tea Latte, but I also enjoy ordering a pot of tea and lingering for awhile.

Several years later, I’m forced to edit this posting. I also edited a posting to google plus. New owners… things haven’t been going so well. — Sadly I have to retract my previous 5 star review. This is tough, but I can’t really recommend this place anymore after new ownership came onto the scene. There are some reasons for this and I’ll elaborate further now: 1) New ownership immediately reduced the hours they are open. Which, immediately reduced some of my favourite times there. 2) The quality control went into the toilet. I measure a great café, notably one with ‘crema’ in its name by their ability to pull a good espresso(1) and by the quality of their traditional cappuccino(2). Velvety wonderful smooth coffee became burned milky monstrosities. — Please keep in mind that #2 was only with new staff. The old staff, which is mostly gone now, still made excellent drinks(miss you guys, hope you land in a great new place. – 3) They close at random times through out the day and at random days. Frankly, this was the deal breaker — if you are closed update your website, if your online hours say you are open, bloody be open. My last 3 times attempting to come(mid-day), they were closed, this is pathetic. So yeah, I’m pretty disappointed by this turn of events. Café Crema had the best coffee in deep-south west Calgary for a few years(and it was wonderful). Alas no longer. I strongly recommend Analog coffee at the Calgary Farmers Market(Blackfoot & Heritage) if you are looking for people who care about every cup they make.

Just a little update– Although painfully out of the way(we moved a whole 10 mins away but never seem to make our way out that direction) I still seems to need to frequent this charmer. My consolation prize has been to get beans so I can have the glory at home. TRUE gem.
