Cookies By George

I either have to LOVE or HATE a place to write a review. Well, let it be known that I LOVE Cookies by George at this SPECIFIC LOCATION! After having lived in California for the last 8 years, and missing my great go-​to spots, this has fast become one of my faves.
Are the cookies delish? Yes, of course! But even more stellar than the dough (if possible), is the service. Owners, husband and wife –Robbie and Tiffany are in a league of their own. They take customer service to another level; making every effort to leave each and every person who cross their path feel like they are their only customer. So many service-​oriented businesses could learn a thing or two from this dynamic duo.
Owning a small, family-​run business, I am delighted and proud to send my clients cookies from a place that cares as much about people as what goes into their delightful and decadent batter.

Today, I felt compelled to write a review. I typically don’t write reviews for mall-​based vendors, just because I think many people are often quite familiarized with franchised stores.
I have been working downtown for 6+ yrs and come to the TD Square Cookies By George on occasion to get my cookie-​fix.
The store has been renovated beautifully and really complements the high calibre of service you get, no matter if you are a customer ordering one cookie or a couple dozen. (This is in stark contrast to the former team who ran the store.) They notice and greet every single customer and go out of their way to thank them for their respective patronage. A minimum of one of the owners is always present when I have been there, ensuring that product is made and displayed well and to ensure that strong leadership is present.
Last week, when I was standing across from the store (not in eyeshot of anybody of the store), I overheard the male store co-​owner speaking to one of his young staff. I’m pretty certain this was a private conversation. Anyhow, I couldn’t help but be impressed with the delivery and choice of words he exchanged with the young man — he presented him with an opportunity to provide his opinion on something, the manager acknowledged it, and responded very specifically and positively — I could see that young worker’s face beaming. I don’t think this was an isolated incident. At other times, when I have overheard the staff talking among themselves, I could sense that management was doing something right, as each person present worked diligently with a spark of energy and sense of pride.
Now this is definitely a business I would like to continue to support (while being mindful of my waistline).

Bonus star for getting their marketing down pat. While their cookies are consistent enough, it’s their packing as corporate gifts that gets my clients going.
Nice touch on the extra tissue paper, kinda like how they put this in men’s socks, shirts @ Holt Renfrew, to get that extra crisp feeling but I digress.

Usually getting the tins w/​6 cookies $ 15 is good value, the tin’s useful for anything.

It was a Monday… and that should say it all, but I’ll go into further details because well, I CAN!
So after a hard first day of the work week I decided that I needed to indulge in a little pick me up so while I was walking through The Core I stumbled upon a beacon of hope, this time it was called Cookies by George.
It was 5:45PM and the mall was closing up for the day, I didn’t think about this until I stepped into the little cookie shop and saw them cleaning up and putting cookies in storage bins. Seeing my eyes probably fill with doubt, one worker smiled and said «not to worry, we have all the kinds available» Heck yes!
So I bought a classic chocolate chunk and a reverse almond chunk, I was a bit disappointed however when I took a bite to realize that these particular cookies were quite hard/​crunchy. That didn’t stop me from devouring them though…
Overall the flavor of the cookies was good but I just expected them to be fresher.

This store is just mean. I mean, what do you expect me to do when I am on my way up the escalator and this shop is conveniently located RIGHT there. Do you honestly expect me to bypass it, ignore the tantalizing scent of fresh baked cookies, and continue en route? Not a chance.
Brilliantly located inside T.D. Square, Cookies by George is a hit for anyone who works or shops downtown. Not only do they serve a mean cookie, but they special order giant cookies and treats so if you accidentally forget a coworker’s birthday, you can sneak over to this place and come back looking like you had the whole thing planned.
As you can tell, I’m a fan. Any place that serves delicious, chewy cookies in a variety of flavours will win me over in a heartbeat.
