Best pottery painting place in the city. I have been going here for years, and have tried some of the other options in the city as well, but all pale in comparison. Much better paint colours and resources, and the staff are always wicked!

I used to come here a fair amount with a couple friends, but life gets in the way apparently. Finally able to make it back here. I know the lovely Sarah that works here, and it’s always a pleasure to see her. But all the staff is super great and helpful. I’m not the most artistic person there is out there, so takes me a while to get back in. Thursdays are half price studio fees, so that is a nice touch. And most things in there are pretty reasonably priced. Fun thing to do with friends, family, kids or even a date.

My experience at Fire Escape was with a group of colleagues. It’s a great spot for team building because you gain some insight into other people’s level of creativity, you share ideas and you engage in conversation which is light and fun because you’re mostly engrossed in your own project. We brought food to snack on and made a big mess, which was lovely. It took me awhile to choose the pottery I wanted to decorate, as they have enough variety to make your decision a bit challenging. They had more than enough tools for me to create what I wanted from an artistic perspective and considering the experience as a whole, I’d say the cost was worth it. There ended up being a flaw in my bowl after they removed it from the kiln, so they actually let me come back and make another one, which I most definitely took advantage of. The bowl was not flawed enough that I didn’t want it, so I ended up with two! I wouldn’t go back regularly, but it’s something I’d recommend you experience at least once. I think it would make for a fun girls outing or date option. If you decide to check it out, I’d suggest you make a reservation.

I took my madre here yesterday for birthday/mother’s day pottery painting. This place rules! Basically, how it works is that you go in, and scope out all the pretty plain white potteries. They have tacky animal figurines, tiles, little things such as mugs and tea bag holders, larger mugs, bowls, plates, serving trays, tea sets, sake sets, etc. We went with some mugs so that we wouldn’t keep ourselves for the whole day. Upon choosing our items, a very friendly fire escape-y came and gave us a «fire drill,» showing us the different techniques and materials available to us. We then looked at all of the paints, wrote down our colours on a sheet, and large helpings of the paint was brought over to us. Basically, you are free to make whatever mess you’d like and paint away. A couple hours later, we’d completed pretty little mugs with sakura blossoms. The mugs ran us $ 9 each, and the studio fee was $ 9 per person as well. Altogether, my bill came to $ 36, which was pretty decent considering. From my understanding, you can also come back to work on projects. Thursdays, I think there’s a half price studio fee. Upon inquiring, I was also informed that they take reservations, and on Saturday evenings are able to book up the studio for larger groups. I look forward to picking up our mugs after they are fired in the kiln this week. :)
