Bear with me while I try to explain what Riva’s is to me. I just love this little store and what they are doing to the shopping experience, so I want to get this right. Riva’s has brought the ‘general store’ idea back to life, refining the concept from what it was 100 years ago when Calgary was just a few dusty dirt roads to create a modern day eco-conscious store where you can find everything from clothing, to toiletries, to baby products, to paint, carpet, tiles, bedding and more! Riva’s does the research for you, stocking a range of ‘clean’ products that are made sustainably and without nasty chemicals you may not even know you are exposed to. Because let’s be honest, who has the time and knowledge to do that for themselves? So far, I have shopped here mostly for cosmetics and hair products, but like to think that next time I’m painting a wall or shopping for baby gifts that this would be my first stop. They even email rather than print your receipt and accept Calgary dollars! If you are so inclined, I would suggest getting on the Riva’s newsletter list. Emails are sent rather sporatically, but are a great way to become a bit more aware of issues such as lead in paint, BPA in baby bottles and why these things matter. Next time ypu dind yourself in Inglewood, stop by Riva’s. Its worth the visit! – L

This is actually a 3.5 due to price point, but I went 4 due to the quality and beauty of the products. Again, on our tile hunt, our designer had mentioned this one tile from here. Being an eco store all the products are environmental, some LEED certified and so forth. They have gorgeous pieces, great selection and very unique. They let us take samples home to see how we felt about it and so forth, plus a couple of the lines you can play with designs online. Downside is the price. For a simple tile back splash, they quoted my designer, who gets a discount, $ 45/sq ft. Which is outrageous, I get the whole eco side, but there is a line, when i can find almost the exact same tile for $ 20/sq ft. Definitely worth checking out, but prepare to pay.

Every time I travel to Calgary, a visit to Riva’s Eco Store is a must. I stock up on shoes, clothing, body products and more. I can’t get enough of their eco-conscious, durable and totally rad products. One of my all-time favorite places to shop.

Sometimes I try to be more eco-friendly. I really try hard. This store helps. Although it is quite expensive, I think they have a good range of quality products. I love their organic bamboo towels. So amazingly soft, and get softer with each wash. They have a lot of good theraputic, cosmetic products too to choose from. It’s really not the type of place I ever went into, until I needed a break from jogging one day. Really glad I did. The store staff are always extremely friendly, and I do enjoy the paperless receipts as well. I’m going to save my pennies and buy a set of their organic bedding.

I stumbled in to Rita’s on a Unilocal photo crawl, to take a few pictures inside the store. The lady was very accommodating and went and got the manager to see if I was to be permitted to take photos in the store. He came out and said«so whats this for?» i said«uh for Unilocal sir, for your business listing where people review your store!» he replied«cool, yeah thats fine!» so off I went to take pics, as I took pictures I was quite impressed with the array of goods that they sell here. Make up, Paint, flooring, hygiene stuff ect! It is quite a unique and cool! As I walked through the store I realized that having a chai latte while trying to take photos was going to be a problem so I asked the lady if they had a coffee thermos, «oh yes over here! ««PERFECT!» I got the thermos and off I went strutting my way through inglewood. From what I experienced, very good! I will be back to check it out some more!

This store is worth a visit by any eco-concious soul because its product line is so well-rounded and tastefully selected that it is a treat even just to browse! The store is divided up inside in a clever manner so that each area — clothing, housewares, beauty product, bedding, children’s items and home hardware — has an intimate feel that invites you to slow down and truly look closely. A great highlight is a full range of eco-friendly paints, flooring, and countertop options! I like that they offer a selection of generously sized 8″ x 10″ paint chip samples of one of the paint brands. You get what you pay for in an eco-friendly world so all prices are reflective of their quality, but a deal can still be found at Riva’s. Sometimes they will have a sale table near the entrance that is worth browsing too. Finally, they have a paperless receipt system which emails your receipt to you — why don’t more stores do this?
