Poor service, got charged $ 4 each for both sides on top of the meals that came with sides. $ 100 meal for two. Terrible.

Been here a few times now, all three time ls the worst service ever! There are servers walking around the bar but they look like they only the the regular ls who are extremely drunk. The first trip was on rib night we asked the server how large the portions were because the price was $ 1.50. She advised they were small, so I order four different flavours… when they came out the table the ribs were enormous, it was a ridiculous waste of food. Last night my date and I sat at a table, we waited for 15 mins before I went to the bar to order. We were there for three drinks and not once did a server visit the table. On the bright side the bar is loud and they play good music, and have pool tables. It is what it is,

Great wing selection for wing night ! It’s a relaxing bar that has the mom and pop shop feel too.

This is a curious place. Stopped in for a pre-dinner bevy one evening as we had dinner plans down the road later on. The place is large, clean and spacious. Kind of airy. One corner hosts a stage for bands I presume later in the evening. The only con to the experience was the waitress who sounded like she had started her first ever shift that evening. Asked what kind of beer they had on tap she said the usual, Bud, Canadian. Tried a direct question, «Do you have Grasshopper». What? No and never heard of it. Conversation challenge. Responded with«OK bring me a Canadian» because this going no where fast conversation needed to end. And they had no cocktail, beverage, wine or beer menu to choose from, or so I was told. To my surprise she did go and ask about Grasshopper and it turns out they did have it available. Whew… wasn’t really wanting Canadian. It’s a cute neighbourhood place, to stop in for a drink, maybe some wings and a listen to the band.

If you are in an up and coming band, I recommend you sign up for one of their Indie Rock nights. If you’re lucky, three people will show up, and you may have a run in with an obnoxious drunk old Bownesian in an ACDC tshirt and hat who will stumble into the stage and request for your shoegaze band to play HELLSBELLS. At least, this was my first impression of Hexters. I visited this facility for the first time about a week ago to watch my brother’s band perform at one of their Thursday night jams. I was pleasantly surprised with this venue, which featured tons of seating(albeit a little emptys), hardwood floors, and a decent sized platform stage set up in the corner. I can tell this facility has a desire to be part of the local music community, but they seem to lack the advertisement and ability to draw a crowd out. Maybe it’s because no one bothers to go to Bowness, but the acoustics were really quite great in there. And the lovely host who resembled a pirate from the maritimes really seemed to know his stuff and was very supportive of all the bands playing the night I was there– for some of them it was even their first show. Also, every band who participated in the show that night was given three hours of rehearsal time at a pretty lovely studio here in Calgary, which is of fairly high value and I feel is super generous! Something I also appreciated about Hexters was the friendly service. The lady serving me was really friendly, and didn’t even smirk a little at the fact that I was alone at a bar in Bowness reading a book and drinking the only cup of tea served in a pub ever, while waiting for the band to play. She checked up on my regularly and at the end of the night didn’t even charge me for my tea. All in all, I think there is definitely room for growth, but I love the focus on supporting young artists. This isn’t somewhere I would go just to have a drink on a weekend obviously because it’s pretty out of the way for me, but I would definitely come and catch another music oriented night and suggest you guys join me :) *Review 10⁄30 in Unilocal’s 30 day challenge 2012

I went on a Sunday and saw some great blues in a well lit environment that didn’t feel seedy or make me feel out of place for not wearing biker gear. There were huge plates of beef nachos hitting the floor for 9 bucks and people eating sure seemed to be liking it. I’m definitely going back on a Friday night to see what it’s like. As a single guy… There has to be some single gals to get that fifth star… Maybe it will be there on the Friday :)

It’s a thrill to find a place like Hexter’s Pub that has a ‘live jam’ on Sunday’s. Gary Martin hosts the jam which takes place on most Sundays, maybe every Sunday, I don’t know. Gary’s band plays throughout the city and their rhythym and blues tunes like ‘Reach Out’, ‘Just My Imagination’, ‘The Thrill is Gone’, and ‘Stand By Me’ herald those of all ages. There are many of Gary’s band members at Hexter’s as well as local guests that add to the flavor and the memories. If you want a place to dance, with a big dance floor, and great music to dance to, or just listen to the Saxes and the amazing vocals, Hexter’s is your place on Sunday’s from 3 – 6. It’s located in Bowness. Check out their website or view videos of Gary Martin online on YouTube. Canada’s first Funk Brother.

More commonly know as the ‘Bo-Ho,’ Hexters has transformed itself from a once quite dingy dive bar, to an exceptional local pub and sports bar. From the outside, Hexters doesn’t look like much, but on the inside you are blown away! They have a little something for everyone. For the sports fan they have giant big screen TV’s to watch all the sports games; for the pool junkies they have a couple of coin-operated tables; and for the VLT lovers they have a whole wall dedicated to you. See? Something for everyone. The food is quite good, and pretty quick, I might add. They’ve got some killer deals like 25 cent wings or ‘buck-a-bone’ ribs, as well as drink specials on different nights. Thursday is good old karaōke and Friday and Saturday night house live music. They’ve even got blues jams on the weekends. The people and service at Hexters are top quality. Considering the area and the general crowd, I’ve never experienced anything too hectic at this place. Aside from the occasional rowdy bunch, it’s usually pretty tame and offers a good time. Hexters is a great pub for whatever you’re in the mood for. It’s no longer that grungy place for creepers and peepers, but more of a socially acceptable pub now!
