It turns out my 10 year old son needs braces. I was referred to Dr. Dohl, buy our dentist Dr. Baker in Cranston. The office reception area and assessment rooms are nice as well. Reception was quick and professional. The waiting area was quite busy as well. They are open evenings, and we had a 6:30 P.M. appointment. The time we waited for our assessment was only around 10 min.(late). The assessment itself, lasted around 20 – 25 min. This is where they photograph the patients mouth, then go over treatment options. After all is said and done, you get the shock of a lifetime. $ 7420.00 for 20 months of treatment with a retainer to where for god knows how long. Then this is where I think I felt pressured into making a decision. You save approx. $ 120.00 if you decide to have your teeth scanned so they can be fitted for braces at a later date. To tell you the truth, when I’m about to spend $ 7500.00 I like to have time to think about it, and possibly get another opinion. That’s when the lady who went over the assessment with me, said she would honor the $ 120.00 savings for another week or so while I discussed it with my wife. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that after the assessment is done you meet(finally) with the doctor himself. Now I went home and discussed the options with my wife. They(the people at My Orthodontist) give you a few different options for payment. One of the options, was pay 30% and make 20 equal payments on your credit card. That’s the one we thought made the most sense. In between the time we decided to go with Dr. Dohl my son had another appointment with our regular dentist. I discussed the plan of action with him as well as the price and it seems I may have made the right decision. I guess my concern is that I think that Orthodontists and dentists work together on pricing. IMO they price gouge. They get you when your vulnerable. You want to do the best for your kids, but the Doctors profit from it. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that parking around the clinic isn’t the best. At night the sports pub and fitness ctr. take up any valuable spaces.
