ICECREAM!!! What a fun concept this is! I really enjoyed the fact that it is made basically before your eyes in a science project type way. The store is clean and has a nice feel inside(although it looks like they almost ripped off Village in the design department) The end product after all the magic happens is pretty delicious, however when I was there I found the options to be lacking. Another improvement could be if they were able to add some more seating because as it is now, you basically have to take it and leave.

So after much buzz on social media about Nice Cream, I finally went to check it out. Loved it! The restaurant itself is kind of tucked away in the complex, but finding it wasn’t too difficult. The store itself is very sleek, but there was very limited seating. In the summer time this probably wouldn’t be an issue but folks like me who enjoy ice cream year-round like to have a place to sit. The menu has flavors comparable to Village Ice Cream. I decided to try the salted caramel as that is one of my favorites from Village. I requested walnuts as a topping(which I don’t think I will do again, the ice cream was packed in the bowl so tightly that the walnuts just kind of ended up… falling off? Oops!) They mix the ice cream right in front of you, and this understandably takes a few minutes to do. And it looks so cool! I didn’t find that the taste and texture were too different from traditional ice cream, but it was very delicious! I would recommend making the trip to give Nice Cream a shot. I think it has the potential to lineup just like Village Ice Cream does in the summertime.

I would really recommend this place. The liquid nitrogen icecream tasted really good and the texture is actually really different than regular ice creams. Its really cool being able to see them make it. But the place was kind of hard to find at first. It looked really«tumblr» and nice inside. & there wasnt much flavors to choose from but in pretty sure they change it daily.

The newest kid on the ice cream block is aptly named The Nice Cream. After a massive brunch, my friend P wanted to check them out as it’s close to her place. Located near Mount Royal University, I can see it doing quite well based on location alone. The gimmick here is that the ice cream is made right in front of your eyes with the use of liquid nitrogen. Science buffs try not to nerd out too much. We came Sunday afternoon and the place was steady for the hour or so that we stuck around. The interior is slick and has all the gadgets out on display for you to fan girl over(aka. Instragram the shit out of the cool vapour that flows out from the freezing liquid nitrogen). There’s two bench areas to sit at which is nice but there’s a lot of empty space not being utilized to their advantage. Having a better seating layout would be ideal. Look how clever their logo is. Took us a second to figure out the meaning behind the numbers but then high school chemistry and the periodic table came back into our muddled memories. The menu consists of six flavours(Mt. Robson vanilla, pekoe earl grey, maas chocolate and salted caramel). The two new flavours are love coconut and pineapple sorbet(they didn’t have these when we went which was before their official opening). There’s a handful of toppings you can add(for an extra $ 0.75) and three sizes to choose from. Pretty straight forward. — Pekoe earl grey and salted caramel($ 3.99 small) — I opted for the salted caramel. The texture was velvety smooth, creamy and the flavour was excellent(caramely? Yes, I know that’s not a word). The ice cream tasted super light and it felt like I could have easily eaten a large size without blinking an eye. The small was a perfect sampler though. P went with the earl grey. I had a taste and it was quite good. She thought it was delicious. A cool spot to grab some ice cream and see a show if you’re in the south/MRU neighbourhood.

Wanted to try Nice Cream to see if there really was a difference between ice cream using nitrogen vs traditional method. I had the salted caramel, my bf the earl grey and our friends both had chocolate. Make sure you have time to wait for your ice cream to be prepared as they mix the ingredients fresh into a bowl and whip it while using the nitrogen right there. The ice cream itself looked very shiny and had a smooth mouth feel. All of us noticed it didn’t taste too sugary but more creamy and didn’t leave your pallet feeling coated after, like the regular stuff. I found it easier to digest and it melted a lot slower as well. Nice cream is on the pricier side, but something a little different to try out. Note: there is very little seating inside!

First liquid nitrogen ice cream in western Canada! So delicious– you have to try the salted caramel!
