I live in the area and live bakery products but found they didn’t have much taste. .the buns etc. never went back and we’ve been here 7 yrs. If I want something good I go to Sobeys Tuscany love all their baking. .Safeway co-op us good too and Cobbs but they can run expensive but their ginger scones are soooo good. .mostly made at xmas. Another excellent and health minded bakery using reg flour also spelt etc is at the south end of crow child in the IGA shopping Centre .iGA used to be Sobeys but they bring in baked goods from Sobeys but don’t make it in store. .

Sweet Home Bakery is a little slice of small town, smack dab in the middle of the Bowness area of Calgary. But you can have that little slice be a little thicker if you choose to have your loaf cut Texas style, as they will cut your fresh baked loaf as you wish. That’s what I did, and the loaf that I got for $ 1.50 didn’t last long. It was damned good bread — crusty and yet soft in the middle. Besides the bread, the Sweet Home Bakery also has an ample selection of homemade buns, cookies, and other sweets available. Sweet Home Bakery serves up great homemade bread and downhome prices.

I’ve driven past Sweet Home Bakery numerous times, finally I decided to check it out. I had their bread at a friends house once and wanted to see what else they offered. The outside reminds me of a few bakeries in the town I grew up in, like it has been around forever. The first thing I noticed was that it didn’t smell like a bakery inside, you know that freshly baked bread smell? It wasn’t there, which I found weird. The woman behind the counter was very pleasant. There is a great selection of breads and buns, the white bread is like candy. Not so good for you, but yummy! I decided from the selection of donuts, cookies and tarts to try out the cinnamon buns. They were $ 5 for 6, not too badly priced. The loaf of breads seem to go for around $ 3 each. One thing about the cinnamon buns is that they were not that big. I did like that they weren’t too sweet, so I was able to enjoy them without my teeth hurting and they were soft and fresh. I didn’t mind this bakery, but I don’t think I would go out of my way to go to it. I do think it is worth giving this place a try, then you’ll know if its baked goods are for you.

It’s always nice to have a bakery close to home, so the people in this community of Bowness must love having this bakery here. I, however, wouldn’t go out of my way to visit the Sweet Home Bakery. Firstly, I went in to buy rye bread but found out they only make it on Friday and Saturday, so I was a little disappointed. I decided I’d look around to find something else to buy, but nothing really struck me as delicious enough. The items that they had out looked good, but it also looked like they’d been sitting out for quite some time. I actually wondered at one point in time if they were fake and just on display to let us know what we could purchase. I found out this wasn’t the case. The thing I like about Sweet Home was that they had a lot of yummy baked treats for sale. There were cookies, cupcakes, cinnamon buns, croissants, fruit cups, etc. That stuff looked really delicious. All-in-all, not on my top list of bakeries. I’ve got different ones closer to home that I could visit.
