I’m a loyal and regular customer of The Brow Studio(mostly this location but the Fashion Central one on occasion), and can speak to a few things: 1) The person I see: Noelle. She’s thorough, precise, and pleasant. I really can’t speak for the other techs, but Noelle is great. 2) The location: it’s conveniently located right off 17th Ave SW, and has ample street parking. It’s also clean, and well kept. 3) The price: a brow maintenance appointment is under $ 30. You have another human being, meticulously shaping the hairs on your face for a long period of time, with tweezers, hair by hair. It’s worth it. 3) My eyebrows: thanks to Noelle, they’re on fleek.

I have gone everywhere. I never take it upon myself to do my own brows. Sorry, my talents do not lie in figuring out eyebrows. I take brows seriously. I did some research since I was not just looking to get my eyebrows done, but was looking to get them re-shaped, brows that suit me. When I arrived to this Mission location, before I could even go in, a man approached me. I was a bit weary since I don’t normally talk to old strange men, but thought maybe he needed directions? I was wrong! He started to yell at me that he saw where I parked & he was going to get me towed and call the police. That I was a bad person & I need to be ashamed of myself. At first I thought, am «I being punked» & looked around for a camera crew, but sadly this creepy old man was serious. I asked him why where I parked concerned him? Apparently I shouldn’t have since that really set him off. He went back to yelling at me & saying he works for the property management company across the street and the parking was for doctor’s patients, not for me. I was not ready to debate with a crazy unstable man who obviously doesn’t know how to talk or approach people and anyone who can yell like that over something so small, really isn’t «right in the head». I surely wasn’t going to continue this one sided conversation with this old lunatic. To make peace, I advised him nicely I would go move my car and walked off. At this point he followed me & many passby-er’s stopped to watch this. I was walking to my car, he started to yell again how the police was on their way and I am evil for parking where I did. Not sure why he was being so dramatic, why he needed to follow me to my car 15 feet away, or why he continued on? I like to just think he doesn’t have better things to do and likes to spread his misery everywhere he goes. I just wanted to move my car & go about the rest of my day and to my appt. Found another spot literally 5 feet away from where I was currently parked. Do note: creepy old man, stood outside the brow studio & I needed to walk by him to go inside. Just ignored him since I wasn’t in the mood for more abuse and wasn’t going to let him ruin my day. Win-win. Finally entered The Brow studio & was looking forward to a relaxing experience after I just had to endure a crazy man. Advised the reception my name and told her I was there for an appt. The receptionist wasn’t overly friendly, just looked at me. Maybe I disturbed her from something? Maybe she was updating her Facebook status and I just interrupted her train of thought? No idea? What I do know is I was the only person in there besides the receptionist, so it’s not busy. A «hi» or even«welcome» would be suffice, but hey who am I to point out the obvious? I sat down & another person came from the back & stated to follow her & my appt was with her. So literally I didn’t even wait 5 seconds after I sat myself down for my appt. Bonus The brow studio is small. The chair I sat in for my brows was about 6 feet away from the receptionist. The whole place is really small but its cozy. It’s decorated nicely & looks very clean. No complaints about the studio itself. I don’t know the girl’s name who my appt was with. She never introduced herself to me, nor did the unfriendly receptionist tell me who my appt was with? I do know she is pregnant(going on mat leave in 2 weeks) and she was the only brow person working when I was there. My «brow girl» was friendly, professional & we spoke for a few minutes before she started any work on what I wanted & what my expectations were for my brows? I thought this was a loaded question & made a joke of «as long as I leave here with two brows, that’s great». We discussed shape & size, then she stated she would get started. She did a quick wax and some tweezing. She told me she filled in my brows too, which isn’t something I normally do but hey, why not? She provided me a hand mirror to look at them. They looked fine. The appointment itself was really quick. Allot quicker than I thought it would be. She stated I could pay at the receptionist & went to the back. I am not sure what is in the back, but hopefully a chair since she is pregnant & shouldn’t be standing all day anyway. I sympathize with her & she was really nice too. The price was very high & not what I am use to paying for my brows. It ended up being $ 42.50 without a tip. Yikes! If it was reasonable, I would think about coming here again 1 day but that is allot to spend on brows for a 7 min. appt. My brows turned out nice & she did a good job. Later on when passing a full length mirror, I realized the power she filled in my eyebrows with was a bit too dark, so washed it off & my brows looked fine. My review(stars) is based on The Brow studio itself. I did not factor the crazy old man into the rating since he has nothing to do with the service I received at The Brow studio. He is just someone to avoid at all costs if you are going to park anywhere in this vicinity. Consider this a Unilocal tip!

I would like to inform everyone that Jane is no longer working there. Terri(my brow specialist from Fashion Centre) works there with another girl. So, for the girls that had complaints about Jane, I would recommend that you take another appointment with Terri(or the other lady that seems just fine). I love Terri. She has a little voice, she is nice, super nice and it doesn’t hurt when she waxes. Which is amazing. She always does a good job(every time she shows me my brow, I’m like: «it looks amazing as usual»), always on time(I hate when I have to wait). I would recommend it to anyone. I know it is a little pricey, but you know, when I was having a «sexual psychology» class in college, the professor said that psychologically speaking, guys don’t have a good opinion of people having undefined brows. :) I think it is enough for me to take care of that kind of crap :)

The issue I have with getting my brows done is that often ‘stylists’ seem to want to make them much smaller than I prefer, regardless of what I say. I am into the«big brow» look and often am just looking for a clean up, not a re-shaping. Jane at Brow Studio understood my struggle and gave me a good clean waxing. However, she then, unprovoked, drew on big black eyebrows on top of my light brown hair so I looked a bit groucho-marx-y. I had to go home right away and wash it off because I looked nuts, in my opinion. And then, to cap off the ridiculousness, I received THREE phone calls and two voice mails from Jane that day asking me to call her because I looked like I wasn’t «ready» for those strong brows! It felt a bit like a needy friend or ex calling and begging for you to come back. haha! The price was also very high and I refuse to believe that is the price I have to pay to maintain my big brows. I don’t think I’d go there again. But, AFTERALLTHIS, they do know brows and they are at least enthusiastic and professional. Maybe give it a shot for yourself, as this was my own personal experience.

Jane knows brows. It’s fast, it’s fun and your brows will never look better. Plan to spend some time after your appointment browsing the store. Lots of great high end make up. Lots of the lines are also carried in Sephora.

Today I experienced all that is The Brow Studio on 17th Avenue. Their store Quorra has been around now for 5 years, but the brow studio itself didn’t open until 3.5÷4 years ago. The store itself has a lot of eye-catching cosmetics in it. It’s basically a mini version of Sephora. They’ve got cosmetics, bath products and little trinkets galore. The brow studio is located right through the store. Jane was the brow expert working on both myself and my Mom. She is most definitely an expert when it comes to brows. She knows her business like no one else. The only thing I found a little irritating was that she kept saying to me «I don’t know where you got the idea that thin brows are in. You need to start watching television and looking through magazines». Considering I am a television producer, I found that condescending. She said it a number of times too, once would have most definitely been enough. She also went on to assume that I don’t work yet because she said«Once you start working, you’ll definitely want to start filling in your eye brows for a more polished look». Yikes… we’re definitely not off to a good start. Overall, I can’t argue the fact that the experts at The Brow Studio are true gurus of ‘eyebrow art’. If you’d like to know if I’d go back however, outlook not so good. The assumptions, the ignorance and the demeaning comments put me off for good.
