HELL… YES! I’m not a huge magic buff. I don’t have the quick, steady hands necessary for a lot of this stuff, and frankly I have to buy a new deck of cards every time I find myself requiring one, because I use them so rarely I either throw them out in one of my ritualistic purges that keep me from becoming the star of an episode of horders, or lose them somewhere along the way. Thus, by no means am I #1 on the list of people most likely to frequent this store… but I have still LOVED every second I’ve ever spent inside. I don’t care if you’ve never performed a magic trick in your life… or even if you’ve never SEEN a magician(though, there aren’t many people from whom I would ever believe this) you NEED to check this shop out at least once. They have literally everything I could ever think of an aspiring magician needing, short of the really stupidly grandiose props like giant water tanks or white tiger mascots. They have coin tricks, card tricks, pen tricks, probably every kind of trick you could possibly think of, and most likely several you never have — all of which come with built in instructions on how to do them, but that’s not even the best part. The selling point of Vanishing Rabit for me, as is often the case at A LOT of businesses, is the people… and in this case, one particular selling method that’s considered normal procedure here. These guys are actual working, and in often cases very talented magicians, and they’re not shy at all about showing it. They don’t just give you the sales pitch on what a trick allows you to do, they will actually perform it right there for your very eyes. The first time I went in, I wasn’t expecting to buy anything — in fact I didn’t think there was any way they could get me interested in doing so… but with a couple questions to determine what a good trick would be for me, the very cool and charismatic guy behind the counter introduced me to a trick called«White Bikes» — a «pick a card» type illusion with the added trick of knocking your socks off when — abra kadabra — every other card in the deck has it’s face disappear, leaving instead a bunch of white faces. I know, it sounds crazy, but walk in and ask the guys about«White Bikes» I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to show you. I watched it 3 times trying to pick out how the trick was done, and eventually HAD to «buy the trick» just to sate my own curiosity. Even if you have no interest at all in performing any tricks yourself, I can’t recommend enough that you stop by this little shop and see some cool stuff. You may even surprise yourself as to just how much you want to try it. 15⁄30

It’s important that you know that I’m basically 4 years old inside. Between my insuppressible curiousity and my playful Leo nature, my ‘mature self’ didn’t stand a chance in this store. A magic store that carries tricks, costumes, makeup and all the swag you’ll ever need to take on Copperfield himself makes The Vanishing Rabbit one of Calgary’s most unique stores. The service is exceptional, the selection is unparalleled and the prices are competitive. I’m thinkin’ you’re gonna need to add this place to your bag of tricks.

Abbra… Abbra…cadabra. If you wanna to reach out and grab the latest magic merchandise, then the Vanishing Rabbit Magic Store is for you. They have all the tricks you could possibly stick up your sleeves available — everything from instructional books and DVDs, to card tricks, costumes, magic wands and top hats. I’m not much of a trickster myself, but even I was intrigued by the vintage Reveen t-shirts they had available in small and medium sizes for $ 30. The passionate discussion taking place about flash paper between the dude behind the counter and a customer definitely left me with the impression that magic is serious business at the Vanishing Rabbit. So, if you’re serious about magic, or want to get that way, the Vanishing Rabbit is the store where you ought to disappear into.

Wow I loved this store; it was like every fibre of my eight year came alive as soon as I entered this shop. First of all there was this tiny carousel of magic gags that greeted me, plastic zippies with instruction on your«Floating Eyeball» and your«Squirting Lit Cigarette» … I was squealing inside. There was an amazing library of magic books and tricks, and quite an impressive DVD section on «How to» from the very best in the field. There were juggling pins, ropes that you could cut and then magically lengthen, there were rubber rats and fake pet puke to fool your friends, assistant costumes and masks, and face paint. There were even colourful wigs and oversized clown shoes. It was all so delightful. The worker was so absorbed in pleasing his customer and they were having quite a serious conversation about fake thumbs and there were many sizes to choose from mind you. They both were sharing jargon, dropping names and exchanging trick ideas. I was so silently impressed. Then the thang really kicking were all the magical boxes and magic hats, you know… to hide the doves, and to cut someone’s hand off, or to hide that playing card. I was just reeling in 8 year old excitement, are the things on the top shelves revealing all the secrets of tricks I had seen as a child. I had to literally turn away I just didn’t want to know it was not real! If I had more time I would have spent it in here, lavishing at all the gags and magic kits but my adult self had errands to do. If you want anything magical, The Vanishing Rabbit is the place to come.

This is the only«Brick and Mortar» magic shop in the city. It is among the best businesses in Calgary in terms of customer service. The online ordering system is smooth and efficient as well. Pricing is also extremely competitive. Brent Smith(the owner) and his employees are very good at guaging the experience of the magician and provide adequate advice and know the best tricks for the experience level. They are also good for providing advice on magic that is not worth purchasing no matter the level of magician. I recommend stopping by this place and picking up an item or two.
