Mehtab East Indian Cuisine

Great place and great food. The butter chicken was especially good; best I’ve had in a while. They bring you fresh naan bread from the kitchen. The place is very clean and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Excellent food and service! We’ve been coming here for a couple of years now and have not been disappointed. We love the lunch buffet it’s our favourite. Have recommended it to our friends and they have all had positive things to say as well.

The «chicken handy» is delicious! The staff is very friendly. I’ve ate here several times and it has always been delicious.

Driving back to Calgary, we decided to stop by based on the other reviews. I liked their fish pakoras but some other dishes we tried (e.g. goat curry, butter chicken, garlic naan) were not as intense as I’ve had in other East Indian restaurants. Perhaps we should’ve asked them to «kick it up a notch.»

My favourite Cochrane restaurant by a long stretch.
Food is always top notch… the chilli chicken is always perfectly prepared at the heat level I ask for… usually hot.
It’s clean, spacious and the staff are fabulous.
And if a particular favourite of yours isn’t in the menu… ask.
They will always do special one offs.
I’ve tried the competition which I thought was mediocre.
Being born and bred in England near the famous curry mile in Manchester… I feel like I know my curries fairly well.
Mehtab fits the bill perfectly.
How lucky am I to live in Cochrane… near such a wonderful restaurant.

Wow! I haven’t had Indian food in a while so maybe I’m more easily impressed. We had an order of the vegetable pakora appetizer and it was just average. I was a little concerned that the main courses were going to follow suit, but I was thankfully wrong.
My girl had the butter chicken and it was fantastic! I had the lamb vindaloo which was custom prepared to my specific heat level… hot. The seasonings were just perfectly balanced and the coconut rice augmented the exotic flavors. A very generous serving of garlic naan rounded things out and we left with enough leftovers to have lunch at home the next day.
Highly recommended!

I found myself in Cochrane on a Saturday afternoon and was looking for somewhere different to dine for lunch. After driving around for 15 minutes, I thought Indian would be a fun choice.
We had the lunch buffet special for $ 12.99. The service was very impressive. They really took care of us by answering our questions about the food and checking up on how we were doing. I mostly stuck to eating the curry dishes available. It wasn’t great. There wasn’t much flavour anywhere. The chicken and beef were pretty bland. The Tandori chicken kind of felt like packaged chicken wings with powdered Tandori flavour mixed in at the the last minute. The nan bread, however, I did enjoy, but it wasn’t better than other places I have tried.
The establishment is clean and the service is great, but I just felt the food wasn’t anywhere near up to snuff. It was really hard to give Mehtab two stars. However, at the end of the day I expect a place to be clean and have good service. For me what makes me want to come back is the food … and I’ve had way better Indian cuisine.

If you like Indian food this is the best I’ve had. Butter Chicken is terrific. Haven’t had a dish there that I didn’t enjoy. Nice restaurant, good service, good prices, not too crowded or noisy. Highly recommend!

Excellent experience all around. On a Saturday evening, the place was about half full. Great quality food and special extra points for an extensive «vegetarian» menu page since I am the lone vegetarian in my family! My young daughter (3mos old) was with us and they were extremely accommodating («Babies are welcome!!» they said). The server even went so far as to notice that I was unable to finish dinner because I was rocking the baby to sleep — and offered to take care of that so I could enjoy my dinner! Extremely friendly staff and attentive service. My family and I intend to return here again soon.

I was in Cochrane recently and felt like trying something non-​fast foody. Since I’m a fan of East Indian cuisine and not afraid of trying new places, Mehtab was an ideal choice.
The first thing that struck me when I walked in was the cleanliness and roominess of the restaurant. I was greeted right away and informed that their lunch buffet was on. Buffet is definitely one of my go-​words — I hear it and I’m in.
The 6 options were all awesome (evenly balanced between meatatarian and vegetarian) and the complimentary naan bread was a great touch. A special shout-​out to probably the best butter chicken I’ve had in years.
All in all, if Mehtab were located in south Calgary, I may simply ask for my mail to be rerouted there. As it is, I can see myself making the drive out to Cochrane twice a month. If you’re a fan of great cuisine and awesome service, do yourself a favor and make the drive.
