Called with a group of 15 short notice on a Friday … Totally friendly and accommodating … We ordered perogies, the borscht was fabulous, Ukrainian platter was huge, tapaka is yummy. They started the Russian singing early and even let our kids sing karaōke style. Too much fun. Everyone was very satisfied

The solianka, the perogies, Russian borscht and cabbage rolls were all great. The flavours are delicious, the service is great and I love the variety of their menu. The Buratino lemonade was really good. However, the flavours were not as striking as the Ukranian Village in downtown Vancouver. I still prefer their perogies and borscht which both taste more flavourful. But the Russian House is nonetheless very good and I would happily return especially since they have a much wider variety of food to offer.

I love Russian House. I myself have traveled to Russia and all over Easter Europe and can say that the food here is so authentic. The cabbage roll and perogies dish is my go-to on the menu and it’s large enough to share with another person. The lamb is also one of my favourites. We always order the beet and herring salad(a classic traditional Eastern European dish) and the olivie. If you happen to still have room for more after having one of their entrees try the chebureki — a turnover stuffed with either potatoes, cottage cheese or cabbage. This is one of my favourite restaurants. The food is amazing, the service is exceptional and the price is fair. Come on a Saturday night for some Russian music and dancing!

We went to this place to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and since we’ve moved back to Canada and rooming with my parents, I’ve not been able to cook the Ukrainian food he grew up with. And so, special occasion time! We pack our son into the car and take the surprisingly smooth car ride along Lougheed to Russian House. If I may say, our son(who just turned 2) is super excited to go any where, especially in the car, and he was gibbering happily on the way over, and super excited when we got out of the car, and then… we entered the restaurant. If it was just the 2 of us, it would have been really nice and romantic, and I have to say, the restaurant is beautifully decorated! there were isolated booths that could easily be curtained off to create an intimate dining experience for 2, and there was even a dance floor with plenty of room for people to boggie. But, we were the only patrons, and it was super quiet save for a few instrumentals of songs you would typically hear on QMFM. Unfortunately for our son, who is well used to the hustle and bustle of Asian restaurants that are our typical fare, this was not a welcome sight! He shut down, and for the rest of the meal. He kept looking around with big eyes at everything, and really, just looked stunned clutching onto his spoon. We coaxed him to eat a slice of rye bread with butter, and some delicious soup, but nope, nothing. Even the owner came over to try and draw him out, but, nothing. This is farily unusual because our son LOVES food and he usually wants to try everything, but barely a murmur came out of him. But, all that really tells you is that this may not be the best place to take a 2 year old on a weekday evening. Now, the food! It was okay. We had stolianka, marinated mushrooms, beshbarmak, and the beef stroganoff. I have to say, we liked the food. Everything tasted as it’s supposed to, and the food was served very quickly, and warm! The one thing I will take from here though is the delicious fried chilli/garlic paste. That stuff rocked! So good, they should just bottle that up and sell that. Now, as much as we were happy with our dining experience(our son was not surveyed), we likely will not be going back there for dinner and it’s simply because of price. Our entire meal cost close to $ 70, and we didn’t even order alcohol. I do think that had our son not been so shell-shocked, we probably wouldn’t have had anything to take home either. In the end, for us, price matters, and this place is too expensive to go on a regular basis.

We like Russian house a lot! First thing you’ll notice… It feels like you stepped into Russia! So great! At first you may be put off by the décor but then you’ll soon hit the realization that… This is truly a Russian house. We come primarily for the borsch and the cabbage rolls. O so good! Plenty of dill and sour cream goodness :) Their lunch menu usually between 12 and 4 is such a great deal! A lot of variety to choose from. Most lunch specials range between 6.75 to 9.95. The service is very kind and friendly. The portions are very reasonable. If you are going to get the perogies I highly recommend the sauerkraut. I especially enjoyed those the most. One thing to avoid is the European sausage. It is partly my mistake because I assumed it was a homemade sausage which it was not the case. Otherwise no complaints and looking forward to going again next week! Highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t already!

A great place to go for some casual dining with comfortable seating. The portions are plenty and the price is fair; I definitely recommend the Shashlyk(Shish Kebab) and cabbage rolls. The fruits and veggies from the salad were quite fresh too. Good for a group of any size; there’s lots of room and even curtained off«booths» to make things a little more romantic. Kudos to the owner, who doesn’t go over the top with decorations to make the place feel«Russian», but entices you with the food and drink. I remember the first time I came I had no idea what to order, and he gave us great suggestions(like the juicy shashlyk). But I think the charm is in the events held here; the floor is perfect for dancing and they have a stage set up for entertainment. Looks like a great spot to hold an event or banquet! I’ll just have to attend one of those events personally to judge on that.

There’s not a lot of places that serve perogies so I had to try this place out. Had a dozen perogies. They give you barely a teaspoon of sour cream so you have to get extra($ 0.50) Add a piddly amount of bacon($ 2.50) and a piddly amount of barely fried onions($ 1.50) and we’re already over $ 17 for a plate of perogies. So you figure $ 17 perogies should stun, amaze and change your life right? WRONG. They claim they’re homemade but they looked and tasted like frozen store-bought perogies. Service was crazy slow, I think they had to run out to Safeway to buy the perogies. I could have gone to Safeway, bought a whole bag of perogies, an entire pack of bacon, 2 onions and a tub of sour cream for less than what I paid for mine here and it would have been higher quality. The only bright spot of the meal was the tasty Borscht. I will not be returning.

Wow this place is a hidden gem! Great fresh food, good prices and fun random entertainment. Would recommend if you want to try something a little different with good homemade style food at a fair price. Great lunch specials as well.

I’ve never tried Russian food, but if it gets anything like what this place serves up, sign me up. The ‘Russian House’ opened very recently close to my place. I was skeptical at first because it seemed to have little to no pull at all. However, tonight me and a couple of friends ventured into it and ran into quite a surprise. The interior made us in fact feel underdressed, me particularly(I was donning red shorts and a hoodie), it seemed quite fancy and the atmosphere was somewhat a fusion of refined with trendy. I was liking it, would’ve loved it if I’d been better dressed. The service was good, really polite and cheery and the food was great, and for me having great food is the biggest plus any restaurant can get. It’s definitely a place to have a dinner party or to bring a date, especially since they had a dance floor and DJ. We ran into a bit of a language barrier with the waitress when asking about a salad but honestly who gives a damn. It was an energetic atmosphere and I’d definitely return just to see what else they got and maybe even bring a lady friend. Definitely dressing up for it next time.
