It’s an experience. I have to say they are very fortunate that their food is so good because the service is very reminiscent of the Seinfeld«Soup Nazi». I watched the lady in front of me get«in trouble» for standing I front of the register waiting to pay, they told her to sit down and wait, that she can pay when it’s ready. I in turn was unhappily corrected when I asked for an omelette bagel instead of the name they gave it(omleggie I believe) I was told if I want something to call it by the correct name. Was very happy with the food itself even if the service left something to be desired. The bread was soft, fragrant and delicious. The veggies perfectly fresh and cut just right. The meat was tasty and did not taste processed. All in all food is great, service is a little sketchy.

Simple ingredients in the egg salad sandwich went perfectly with the soup. The sandwich: three layers — egg whites with mayo, thinly sliced red peppers and lettuce and the kicker is just a little black pepper. Sliced bread was crusty on outside, soft and very light on the inside. The soup: broccoli — on the watery side but thickens on the slightly oily surface. Small pieces of broccoli with every spoonful. Very good! The service: No nonsense and observant owners made sure food came quick and customers do not take up room in small restaurant. Eat first, pay later. Combo is reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of the food.

Let me start off by adding a comment about the owners. I skimmed over many reviews about this place saying how the owner was rude. When I went he did give off that vibe with who I assume was his wife, but I immediately identified he wasn’t rude by heart, it was more of a schtick. He was rude to his loyal customers and made a few snark remarks but they laughed along at it. If you go into this restaurant and demand solid customer service or complain about the food, then yeah, the guy(owner) will probably chase you out and I’m not even kidding. So with that aside, the food here was great. Very fresh. Had the soup and sandwich combo. The bacon lentil soup was good and tuna sandwich was fantastic. You can tell they care about the quality of the vegetables and prepare it well. I’d come back and wouldn’t mind the owner busting my cops.

You’ll love them or hate them: the little old Eastern European couple have character! The husband is a joker and may offend some people on the way with his dry sense of humor; the grumpy wife can mumble something complaining that you didn’t return the dishes where expected, or that you should go get the food if she doesn’t feel like bringing it to you. Either way, it’s an experience! Mainly because they make everything from scratch(include their fresh bread! !). They usually have a handful if soup options which you can have as a lunch combo with selected sandwiches. One if my favorites is the meat loaf: very flavorful although a bit on the salty side. I’d recommend then over Subway across the street! ! However keep in mind that if you’ll need a receipt(for company reimbursement or whatever) they won’t give you one. They say they only give you whatever the cash register prints(which looks like what a calculator would print: some numbers added and the final amount with no description of the products). Once I even had an incident with the grumpy lady, having ordered in advance for a company event and making clear I needed the receipt to get reimbursed(which they reassured me when I ordered). After paying cash and getting the cash register numbers, I asked for a more specific one, and she said there wasn’t such a thing and the best they could do would be a print out of a credit card machine, which at least shows the store name. I then said I’d really needed it(if that was the best they could offer anyways), for what she responded«too bad you already paid cash so I can’t give you the credit card print out because I won’t reimburse your cash and let you pay with a card now. Next time, honey. .». Well, that didn’t make me a happy camper, so I thought I’d warn others just in case you need the receipt. But if your don’t, I’d recommend their food.

TWOWORDS: MUSHROOMSOUP. AMAAAZE Soups freshly made daily. Great sandwiches on home made bread. I wish they would bring back the home made bagels, the new white sesame ones are not as good. Small place, has a home feel to it, interesting owner… sarcastic and teasing with customers.

A very frequent customer of the Soup Plus Café for about a year, I returned the first time after a three month hiatus from Downtown. I didn’t even get close to the counter before the Owners enthusiastically shouted my name from behind the counter! What a great welcome! After a brief catching up, they served me a great Borscht soup I’ve had this side of Grandma’s house! As with all their dishes, each mouthful makes you wonder, «what has he done to make that taste so unique and so damn good»? How can someone make soup and tuna sandwich taste so awesome? Great spot for lunch, and the price was reasonable. If Wikipedia had a picture of comfort food, it would come from the Soup Plus Café — the proof that nothing beats home cooking made. Nice job, guys! Still rockin’ the quality lunch!

Great place, used to come here all the time in highschool. Just went in again after a few years and still top notch. I had the tuna melt and it’s to die for. Tomatoe ham soup — amazing! !! But the best part is the in house baked fresh bread… this guy knows his business! !! Amazing place :)

I was reluctant to try this place at first as strip mall sandwich joints are generally a total waste of time. I’ve only ever had the tuna melt because I can’t bear to miss an opportunity to eat it. The key to these delicious sammiches is definitely the bread; it’s homemade, crackly but soft and has the most amazing flavour. The other ingredients are not overbearing and let the bread shine as the star. Mushroom soup is also good. If you’re not used to the service here, I can understand why it’s off putting; I’ve literally had entirely non-verbal experiences, where he points to ask you to order, waves you off to indicate he’ll bring the food then nods a thank you. I don’t mind though; they aren’t rude of condescending, just brusque. Plus the sammiches really speak for themselves. Give this place a try and if the service really bothers you, take it to go!

I tried this place based on a recommendation but I would not go back. I guess the owner fancies himself to be like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld, as that’s how he was acting. I read the sandwich board to see if anything jumped out at me. The Chicken Parmesan sub sounded good, as anything with melted cheese sounds good to me! I asked the guy what was on the sandwich and he said, «Everything you don’t like». I laughed and said, «Well, I really don’t like mayo, so please don’t put that on my sandwich» he said«fine», and told me to sit down. I had also ordered a bowl of mushroom soup(which was very good) and I started eating that while he made my sandwich. When it was ready, he leaned over the counter and held out the plate for me to take. I brought the plate back to my table and lifted the bread to see what it looked like inside. There was no melted cheese, and the chicken looked like teriyaki chicken, not chicken parm. Plus, there was mayo on it. I took it back to the counter as I thought he got my order wrong. But no, he said the ‘melted cheese’ was actually parmesan cheese mixed in with the chicken. He apologized for the mayo and gave me a new sandwich, but it was definitely teriyaki marinated chicken with parmesan cheese sprinkled in. I guess if you are an ass, you don’t have to justify your menu — you just glare at people until they either eat or leave. Well, I ate the sandwich, but it was not good — aside from the bread. I’ll give them that — two stars for good soup and fresh bread — but terrible customer service and sandwich ingredients. If you don’t know what a chicken parmesan sandwich is, don’t put it on your menu. Simple. Will not return.

I love the food. Sandwiches, soups, pasta(only 1 dish but it’s huge and very tasty)… all excellent. The secret to the sandwiches is the amazing bread he makes. The owner is a bit abrasive but bearable. The wife I think would chase you off with a broomstick if they didn’t need to sell food. The dining experience here is fairly poor for the few times I’ve eaten in the restaurant so I usually get take out. My biggest beef is that I once ordered a sandwich, asked them to add bacon and got charged an extra THREEDOLLARS for the bacon. The explanation(from the wife)? «It’s like ordering another sandwich without the bread» and I’m not exaggerating about the quote. There isn’t anything special about the bacon. It’s regular store-bought bacon and they don’t even fry it up on the grill… they use one of those microwave trays for it. The food is the worth 4 stars. I could give 0 stars for everything else but that would be inaccurate… everything else about this place is worth –2 stars.

I really don’t stop to write reviews very often, but the tuna melt I just ate simply blew my mind… If I got to eat one meal before I died, there’s a good chance that sandwich would be it. Bread is amazing, the owner fits the whole experience of this place perfectly. Sarcastic, witty and fun. I also tried a small veggie soup and enjoyed it very much. One of the better I have had. Not overly complicated, good spices and flavors, the vegetables still had some consistency and not just mush — very enjoyable! I will be a frequent customer for sure.

Great food, with the occasional terrible service. My preference is to do take out only. The sandwiches and soups are homemade and it really comes across in their delicious selection. The owner there even hand-slices the bread right there in front of you. I have never really been a big soup person, but they are absolutely fabulous there. Since my fiancé and I were the only dinners in there around lunchtime, the owner decided to sit beside us and talk to us the entire time we were there. I found this nice for the first few minutes, but after that, I kinda wanted some alone time with the honey. His wife is not particularly friendly.

The BEST bread EVER! All sandwiches are made with it! I love tuna sandwiches and that’s what I get when I go. They put just enough so it’s not spilling out of the bread. It has lettuce, tomato and cucumbers in it. The owners are very friendly and funny! I’m sure anything you get here is A+!

I have been eating here for years and love the food tremendously, when I walk in I am greeted«Hello pretty girl». It’s very sweet. The bread is baked fresh daily, the soups are made fresh daily! Everything is from scratch aside from the owners making the cheese themselves. I am saddened by the negative comments on the page, in truth you will not find sandwiches like they make anywhere else and for such a great price. Yes many people joke and make reference to the Soup-Nazi on Seinfeld… The owners are European and as others have said as well, their service is part of the charm of the place. If you go there a handful of times they will come to know you by your favourites! I eat there anytime I am in the area. Where else will you get a beautiful, fresh, homemade bread ham sandwich for $ 5? You tell me… Faves: Ham & Cheese Tuna Melt Meatloaf … it’s all wonderful!

Now, I said to myself when I first started reviewing, «Self, there is no such thing as five stars, nothing is perfect». I did some reviews of some pretty good places, but this place deserves five stars. Ok, I could deduct a half point for the parking, it sucks… bad, and it is a little pricey for soup and sandwiches, but… This place is run by a couple I am guessing are from central Europe. She is a sweet lady and he is a grumpy Guss, on the outside. He comes across as this mean, grumpy man. Don’t let that fool you, it’s just a shtick. He is hilarious. Every time we go(and it’s always with my awesome girlfriend) we leave with huge smiles. They are so cool. They show up at about 6:00 am to start baking the bread and making the soups. They are open till 7pm 6 days a week and I swear, they love what they do, you can taste it in everything here. The Poor Boy is amazing, the club is wicked and they usually have 4 — 6 fresh made soups. The soups are fantastic and the sandwiches are phenomenal. I just can’t say enough good things about this place. Go try it. Ya, the parking sucks. Suck it up princess. Oh, and have a miserable day. LOL!!! For a soup and sandwich place, this is really… as good as it gets.

Wandered over while getting my skates sharpened at the new Cyclone Taylor. The owner gave me a hard time cause I was wearing my Oilers t-shirt, but it was all in a good spirit. Got myself a large Louisiana poor boy sandwich. Oh so good. Bread, meat, sauce, veggies were perfect. Decent price for a great fresh sandwich. Decent size too as I had to take half of it home to eat later cause I was stuffed. Next time I need to try their selection of soups which looked good. A family walked in and they were also treated like they had just walked into their grandpa/grandma’s place with lots of cheer and good food. Great sign. I’ll definitely return anytime I’m in the neighbourhood. Just gotta remember to bring my Oilers gear to keep em honest!

I liked it. My experience was nothing like the other poster’s. I walk in around noon. The couple greets me at the counter. Both are very friendly. I order my soup and sandwich. They hand me my soup and they bring me my sandwich to my table. Several customers walked in after me and they seemed to know them. Asking about family members and remembering orders. The food was wonderful. Freshly made soups and bread. Yummy. Healthy? — Yes. Lots of Veggie options. They don’t accept credit cards, but they do accept the interact debit cards. $ 5 min.
