Big Leagues Dining Room & Lounge

I have been there on a Friday and Saturday before and it was a good time. However, a friend and I decided to go there on a Sunday evening since their website said they were open until 2:00am. We pull into the parking lot and the place was dark, the bar was closed. I know during the winter months, business is slow but they should really use their social media sources (facebook/​twitter) that they are closing early.

The service was horrible the drinks were warm… Wait over a half hour for water never will go back… Was told it was the place to go and I’m from bc was very disappointed

I haven’t been to Big League’s since they moved to their new location (basically switched strip malls). I did not care for their old spot and the new one isn’t much different; still dark and dirty-​looking inside. This time the ceiling was leaking though.
Despite the lack of ambience, the food is pretty good and so is the service. Mike and I attended an auction here and ate at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive, and even though the place was packed solid, food still came in a timely manner. I had the Weekender breakfast, typical toast-​eggs-​bacon-​home fries combo (which I love). With the exception of the barely-​margarined toast everything was good. Mike tried their fajitas and was pleasantly surprised.
Prices are reasonable and they have lots of TVs to watch sports on, as well as some hockey memorabilia on the walls. I would eat here again if I found myself starving in Cole Harbour. :-D

One of my favorite spots for beer and wings. The customer service is the best I’ve experienced for a bar like this. Definitively worth a try and their daily specials are usually pretty darn good.

I’ve been going to Big Leagues for years, ever since I needed an adult to accompany me in for dinner time. For a while, I stopped going, mostly because I was no longer living in Dartmouth but also because the reputation of the place was ruined by the type of crowd a new radio station-​sponsored weekly event was bringing in. They’ve since ended their deal with the station, changed locations, and I’m happy to say that they have gone back to their simple sports bar and comfort food roots.
Now housed in the former Colby Ale House’s location, Big Leagues hasn’t sunk much money into updating their restaurant. Honestly, they have such a big pack of regular followers that they don’t really need to bother. Faded banquettes, varnish-​worn tables, plastic card tables, and a sticky bar are haphazardly staged for maximum seating in the dark and dingy bar. Age or character, you decide, but the place definitely reeks of both.
Like most bars in this town, they have a good wing night both Wednesdays and Thursdays. They have a sampling of German cuisine inherited over from the Ale House days. The pork schnitzel and spaetzle satisfied my eating companion once. Heavy comfort dishes like lasagne are made in-​house and don’t skimp on the cheese. You’ll also find all of your pub favourites, like nachos, deep fried you name it, steak, and burgers. Unfortunately, they couldn’t house the pizza oven from the old place in this new venue, so gone are the smokey pizzas. They’re not culinary trailblazers, but they know what comfort food is and how to make it taste good.
It’s a great place to grab a few beers and watch the game, too, and they like to bring in live entertainment once in a while. You can definitely count on there being a few live bands each month, but if you’re lucky, then Tony the X-​Rated Hypnotist is in town to give a good show. Or, you can make your own entertainment by playing the slots in the designated gambling area. Overall, it’s a neighbourhood bar full of friendly regulars, cold beer, and cheap comfort food. What more do you need for a casual night out?

Big Leagues used to be the answer to the question «where should we eat out tonight?» every time it was asked. Since its move to the old Colby Alehouse location I’m afraid it’s not my favorite anymore. Although the location itself is convenient and there’s ample parking, the quality of the food has taken a nosedive.
I used to enjoy the burgers, various sandwiches, and the pizza. I visited recently and found out at the new location there is no pizza oven, so pizza had been nixed from the menu. I opted instead for my favorite sandwich, a breaded chicken affair with mayo dressing, fancy bun, etc. When my food came the old lightly breaded chicken breast was replaced with a pounded flat super deep fried schnitzel type deal. It was much too greasy and chewy. The rest of our table was also unhappy with their meals and miffed by the bad quality of their usual favorites. The once crispy and light fries were flaccid and mushy. The only explanation for this change has to be the recent move. That or they acquired the cook from the Colby Alehouse. Which in my experience had terrible food. I’m hoping to return and give Big Leagues another try for old times sake and see how it turns out.
Although the quality of the food seems to have tanked the décor and nightlife aspect of Big Leagues remains the same. They still have the VLTs, each with its own regular customer glued to the screen. I really wanted Big Leagues to stay the same or even improve slightly because there are so few places to eat in Dartmouth that aren’t major box restaurants.

Good news, Big Leagues just signed on their liquor permit to take over the Colby Ale House on Portland Street (Zellers mall). The Colby is moving down the strip mall to where the dollar store used to be. Now you can have your wings and schnitzel too!

A friend of my youth, Big Leagues (affectionately dubbed «Pig Leagues») is a Cole Harbour pinnacle of excellence. From standard pub fare to cheap beverages and a varied clientele, this joint provides an entertaining experience for post-​19 humans.
Raucous Thursday nights have been a long standing tradition at this bar. From karaōke to dancing, to boozing and acting a fool — this place’s location in an average Dartmouth strip mall does not allude to the serious action taking place behind the outer walls.
The patio draws summer time fun, while the bar itself provides loads of TVs, pool tables and seating for many. The food is typical, nothing to holler home about — but it gets better after you’ve had a couple of adult beverages.
I don’t frequent this spot anymore, but it does hold a place in my heart as a fun dining experience as a kidlet (I always ordered fajitas and potato skins), as well as one of the first places to introduce me to a real «night on the town.» I grew up in Cole Harbour — what more can I say? This place was the big leagues when I was just a ‘youngin looking to party.

Great Wings and a must try. Thursday nights are usually packed to the point when we went it was a line up and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. I can not wait until the patio opens for the summer.
Sitting down at this well know location in Cole Harbour the staff was fast and extremely used to be run off their feet as we had our wings in about 15 minutes. They were delicious, large and meaty and had a great hot sauce on them. I always go for 10 and my BF does 20 and sometimes I might steal one if they are good and at Big Leagues I do just that.
On the weekends this place turn into Cole Harbours hot stop. Great entertainment is always something that you can find there or even when they have the hypnotist this is by tickets only that is always funny trust me. Packed with people that like to party up a storm and can do just that. We went over and met some friends for a drink I did find it kind of young but maybe I am just getting old. Music was good and dance floor was hoping so check it out and enjoy the home of Crosby.

Located in Cole Harbour, Big Leagues is one of Dartmouth’s more well known taverns. Big Leagues is known for its Thursday night karaōke, and frequently hosts live entertainment like Blueberry Grunt, Matt Mays, Jimmy Flynn, and X-​rated hypnotists. With all day long Happy Hour (Monday thru Friday), over-​sized televisions, and an outdoor summer patio, Big Leagues can become a very busy, happening spot.
Personally speaking, it’s not my favorite place to go. The food there is mediocre, and most of the items there are deep-​fried items and represent those most commonly found in pubs (Wings, potato skins, nachos, fish & chips). With the exception of Special Events, most of the people there seem to be regulars, and I’ve met more than my share of interesting characters there.
